With tonight's game between the Habs and Oilers, it's a battle of the two best teams in special teams.

Edmonton currently has the best power play percentage in the NHL, and Montreal is number one on the penalty kill.

It's interesting that such lowly ranked teams rank so high in these categories, both teams who are currently battling it out for 28th place overall in the standings. (Or looking at it another way, battling for 29th place, and a better lottery pick at the draft.)

I'm sure neither team is looking to tank any games down the home stretch of the regular season, but I recently saw a study which showed that teams which were already out of playoff contention performed statistically worse than when they were in contention.
