Calgary traded for the rights to Dennis Wideman and subsequently signed him to a 5 year 26.5 million dollar deal (5.25 per year). He's become a pretty good player, but man that seems like an awful lot of money for a dman who i don't consider to be elite by any means. Is that the market these days for a solid all around dman? Maybe it is and i just haven't come to terms with it yet?

It does seem like an odd one to me.

But the more I think of it, the one thing Calgary was missing was an elite passer/power play guy. They have missed it ever since (sorry to mention it) Phaneuf left. Bouwmeester is just never going to be quite good enough to be that guy, so yeah . . . maybe it will work out.

But this is a big overpay, IMHO.

I think as well it's a too big of an offer for wideman, he must have a real good agent...but on the other side, calgary had the money, especially for a Defensman. They needed a legit power play def, like wideman. But 5.25 M for a def who gets shifted as easily as him...ark, i don't get it.
