First off, I think P.K. Subban is a great defenseman, and fully deserving to be on the Norris ballot.
But I think Suter or Letang are more deserving of the Norris this season.
On points production, Letang and Subban led the NHL, tied for 38 points each, but Letang only played 35 games as opposed to Subban who played 42 games. Suter, who is more defensively minded, tallied 32 points in a full (shortened season) 48 games, finishing third in points for NHL defensemen.
But Suter led the NHL in minutes per game, playing nearly half a game, at 27:16 average minutes played. Letang was 7th, and Subban was way back at 34th with only 23:14 minutes played per game.
Subban was particularly proficient on the power play though, amassing nearly 70% of his points with the man advantage. (26 out of his 38 points.) He only tallied 12 points at even strength, which is way less than Letang's 25 even strength points.
Subban was not even in Montreal's top three in average minutes played at even strength (which is majority of how the game is played after all), with Gorges, Emelin and Markov averaging more minutes per game than Subban five-on-five! With an average of 17:05 minutes per game played, Subban was 104th in the NHL for defensemen. Suter led the league with an average of 21:22 average minutes at even strength!
As for shorthanded minutes, Sutter and Letang average about a minute more per game than Subban while down a man. Meanwhile, Subban was 6th on his own team with only 1:27 minutes per game on average.
And in nine overtime games, Subban contributed exactly zero points.
Once again, I think Subban is a great defenseman, but his prowess is that of a power play specialist.
If I had to pick five defenseman I would want on my team (present value, not potential value, contract value, etc.), he doesn't make my list. I would pick Suter, Letang, Chara, and Weber ahead of Subban.
But it was a close race this season, and I understand the voters' propensity in going for the point leader, even when selecting a defenseman winner. Subban tied for the league lead in points by defenseman after all, and while most of his points were on the power play, this may be enough to beat out Suter and Letang for the Norris. We will know tomorrow for certain, or maybe Nick Kyprios has already revealed the winner!

Heard / read this as well. I dont' doubt for a sec that it's a valid "leak" and i'm not all that surprised that it's happened, both the lead and Subban's win.
As far as Subban winning, i'm ok with it. I know a lot of people hate him for his attitude and consider him arrogant and such, but he did have a really fine season. Also, keep in mind, it was a lockout shortened/condensed season and who knows what would have happened over a full sched?
Suter would have been deserving for sure as well, and maybe Letang though he missed even more games than Subban? Problem is, like the Hart, it often goes by offensive stats, and Subban led all blueliners (tied with Letang, but with more goals, and as mentioned, Letang's missed games prob hurt him). They really need to come up with another defensive award, say for defensive dmen as the voters seem to have trouble recognizing a guy who plays at both ends of the ice very well! However, with the way voting is today, i think Subban is a worthy recipient of the award for 2013.

One of the sportsnet guys had it on his twitter... Kipreos or something like that? Based on the competition, he does deserves to win it but it still was a rather weak year overall for the defensive stalwarts.

I understand the awards will be presented prior to Game 2 (on Saturday) of the finals.
I realize that things leak out sometimes, but I'm pretty sure the NHL would be very careful about containing and protecting the award winners until then.
Just curious – where did you hear this leak? Or are you just speculating?
