I agree with at least the top three on this list.

Did you hear about the retired proctologist? He spent 40 years saying "what's a place like this doing in a girl like you?"

Sergei Fedorov - #1 by a lot. 3 Cups, Hart, Pearson, Selke. et al. Plus his play on the ice was second to none. As Josua said, let's not forget the guys played more than one season as a defensemen which skues his numbers and he played in the deadpuck era. In my 40 years on this earth, based on players I watched with mine own eyes, Fedorov is #3 best in the past 40 years behind on Gretzky and Lemieux. For me, Yzerman gets this hands down.

Paval Daksyuk #2 - See above, just not as good as Fedorov. At his prime he was the best defensive player in the NHL (Forward or Defensemen) and top 3 offensive players as well. Few players in history have been able to do that.

Geno Malkin #3 - See above just not a defensive juggernaut. Not terrible defensively, just not a strength like #1 and #2.

Paval Bure - #4 - one of the most dynamic goal scorers in the game. I put him at 4 ahead of the guy at #5 because I think Bure was not only a better player but had Bure played in the same era and Ovi, I think he would have been a better goal scorer.

Alex Ovechkin #5 - can't deny his goal scoring ability. But he doesn't bring anything else to the table like the list of players ahead of him did and he didn't win. But one still can't ignore his goal scoring. Best of his generation.

Honorable mentions to Mogilny, Gonchar, and Markov.

Its hard to imagine a team as talented as the 90's Red Wings, which included Steve Y in his prime, but Federov to me was the best player of that era to don the Wing crest. As good as Malkin is he will not be remembered as the best Penguin of his generation. In my mind, Steve Y is better than Crosby, or its at least really close, so this to me is easy to say that Federov is better than Malkin. But if someone thought otherwise, I have no real argument.

Federov, eh?

I can respect that I suppose . . . but Malkin has a Hart as well, but also has two Art Rosses, a Calder, and most importantly for me, is probably only 2/3 done in his career yet is coming up on Federov's records for playoffs, and probably has a few more seasons until he passes him for all time points. Really, the difference between the two is Federov's specialty was defensive specialist, while Malkin's was offensive output (in a much more defensive era comparably, since Federov's heyday was in the high scoring era, not the dead puck era).

In deference to leaving Federov off my initial list, I'll bump him up to second. Clearly an oversight.

I agree with Malkin - best Russian player all-time, hands down. But after that for me, it's extremely tough, and depends how you weight the criteria.

Ovechkin - most talented and consistent goal scorer all time, behind Gretzky and Bossy and Brett Hull
Pavel Datsyuk - probably the best all-time defensive forward, someone who really made this a prominent category, and a dominant player to boot
Bure - most electrifying goal scorer of all time, and the purest and best goal scorer of his generation

For me, it's a virtual tie between Datsyuk and Ovechkin, and at this point, I give the edge to Datsyuk. But it's extremely close, and obviously Ovie can pass him in the next couple of seasons as he is active.

But yeah, I agree with Malkin at #1.

Its a good list and I really don't have a problem with the ordering, but the person who wrote it, didn't take into account Federov's time at defense. Part of me wonders how I would feel if they both played the game today at the age of 30, who would be better by way of stats and trophy's.
