I'm not making this up.

Dustin Penner is out with a pancake-eating injury. (He hurt his back while eating eating pancakes.)

Here's the actual quote from Penner himself:

“Apparently it’s one of those mysterious things, where you can throw it out (from) sneezing. I just leaned over to dip into some delicious pancakes that my wife made. It’s just like it [the pain] wraps around you and squeezes. … So it was disappointing. Hopefully it’s just an isolated incident, and not something that’s going to become chronic.”

If I were Penner, I would have come up with a better story. I'm not disputing what took place, but with his reputation as a lumbering, sometimes out of shape player, he would have been better off making up a hockey playing (or practicing) excuse for his injury.

Maybe the Kings will put a clause in his contract about eating pancakes. Most players are not allowed to engage in high-risk activities like skydiving or bungee-jumping, but for Penner, they may want to consider expanding it to include flapjack eating expenditures, etc.

It must of been an animal cracker and he thought it was a real lion that he picked up and got scared and when he jumped from the shock it pulled out his back
