Pittsburgh, PA, United States (NewsBahn) - Matt Murray sparkled between the pipes in stopping 47 of 49 shots as the Pittsburgh Pens took a 2-1 series lead over the Washington Capitals with a 3-2 win Monday night.

Three different players scored as the Pens took a 3-0 lead over two periods and held on for the win.

Patric Hornqvist and Tom Kuhnhackl tallied a minute apart in the opening period as the Pens took a 2-0 lead. Carl Hagelin added another score, his third of the playoffs, as the Pens opened up a 3-0 advantage in the second stanza.

Washington ripped 21 shots in the third period and scored on a pair of them thanks to Alex Ovechkin's fourth goal of the postseason and the first by usual postseason terror Justin Williams.

The Caps couldn't net the equalizer though thanks to Murray's stellar play.

Braden Holtby collected 20 stops for the Caps, who look to level the series at 2-2 with a win Wednesday.
