San Jose, CA, United States (4E Sports) - The American Hockey League will move five of its teams to make up the California-based Pacific Division next season.

The new cities will be in San Jose (Sharks), Stockton (Calgary Flames), Bakersfield (Edmonton Oilers), Ontario (Los Angeles Kings) and San Diego (Anaheim Ducks).

The first four teams already own their AHL franchises while the Ducks will purchase the Norfolk ( Va .) Admirals and move them west.

The plan had been in the works for several years.

Having the teams in California will ease travel costs and help teams keep a better tab on their prospects.

Sharks COO John Tortora said that to have development team located in the same city will help expedite the development of our younger players.

Flames GM Brad Treliving noted that relocating the development teams to California will avoid cross country fights every time they needed to tap a player.
