Ottawa, ON, Canada (4E Sports) - Former Ottawa Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson will announce his retirement Dec. 4 at the Canadian Tire Centre, when the Senators host the New York Islanders.

Ticket sales for the game are already brisk, in anticipation of the announcement.

There is some speculation that the Senators will offer Alfredsson , who turns 42 on Dec. 11, a management position.

Alfredsson spent 17 seasons of his All-Star career in Ottawa until leaving to play for the Detroit Red Wings last season over a bitter contract dispute.

Back issues since last season led to Alfredsson's decision to retire.
