Calgary, AB, Canada (4E Sports) - Calgary Flames' newly-signed goaltender Jon Gillies said he is ready for the playoffs if asked to play.

"If, by some chance, my number is called upon, I'll be ready to do the best I can. But right now, it's about supporting the best I can and taking in everything I can," said Gillies .

Gillies , who is the No. 3 goalie on the depth chart behind starter Jonas Hiller and backup Karri Ramo , started his first practice with the Flames, Wednesday.

The Flames are playing the Vancouver Canucks in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs and lead the series 1-0.

Gillies signed a three-year entry level deal with the Flames, Tuesday, after being named the Most Outstanding Player of the Frozen Four tournament.

The 6-foot-6-inch, 225-pounder made 49 saves for Providence in a 4-3 win over Boston University in last Saturday's NCAA championship game.
