Manhattan, NY, United States (4E Sports) - The New York Rangers may name defenseman Ryan McDonagh as their new captain as he expressed his willingness to step up and take the role for the team.

The Rangers are without a captain since they traded Ryan Callahan to the Tampa Bay Lightning last March.

McDonagh shared with the The New York Daily News his readiness to be the Rangers' 27th team captain.

"I think I've progressed into being a go-to guy, someone teammates can look up to and someone they can count on."

McDonagh also said, "I think guys see I'm willing to do whatever it takes to win… [Being captain] is a big responsibility, too."

"It's not just about on the ice but how you carry yourself off of it and represent the organization," he added.

Last season, the 25-year-old had 43 points (14 goals, 29 points) leading the Rangers in minutes played per game with 24:49.

In his four-year stint in the NHL, McDonagh has 26 goals with 77 assists in a total of 246 games played.
