Uniondale, NY, United States (4E Sports) - The New York Islanders are having a great run so far and continue to show significant improvement from their recent seasons with a 15-6 record.

The Islanders are third in the NHL in offense and hits scoring 3.2 goals and averaging more than 30 hits per game this season.

Though their defense needs more improvement, they are starting with goaltender Jaroslav Halak who has a strong save percentage.

The Islanders' defense must flourish because their top two prospects Griffin Reinhart and Ryan Pulock are defenseman.

If the Islanders continue to play the way there, the playoffs are not a far-fetched goal for a team that struggled for too long.

The Islanders continue continued their strong play toppling the Philadelphia Flyers in a 1-0 victory at home Monday.

Flyers goalkeeper Steve Mason's 46-save effort was put to waste after Islanders centers Frans Nielsen and John Tavares converted in the shootout for their fourth consecutive win.

The Islanders will face the Washington Capitals Wednesday and hope to extend their streak to five straight wins.
