Chicago, IL, United States (4E Sports) - Captain Henrik Zetterberg assisted on a pair of goals, including the game-winner, as the Detroit Red Wings defeated the Chicago Blackhawks, 4-1, to tie the Western Conference semifinal series at 1-1 Saturday at United Center.

"I think we didn't play well in Game 1," said Zetterberg, who now has 10 points in the playoffs, which puts him in a tie for fourth in the League.

"I think we had a long series and it was a little wake-up call that we were in another series, so we wanted to play better today and I think we did," he added.

Damien Brunner, Brendan Smith, Johan Franzen and Valtteri Filppula scored while netminder Jimmy Howard stopped 19 of 20 shots for the Red Wings, who will host Game 3 Monday at Joe Louis Arena.

With the win, the Red Wings ended an eight-game losing streak to the Blackhawks dating back to last year.

"The whole year I thought we came up just a little short against them, games were really close, overtime games," defenseman Brendan Smith said. "So to finally get the first one is nice. I think we've always known that we can beat them."

Corey Crawford had 26 saves while Patrick Kane scored the Blackhawks' lone goal in the first with assists from Michal Handzus and Patrick Sharp.

In the second, Brunner erased a one-goal deficit when he deflected a point shot from Jakub Kindl at 2:40 for his team-leading fourth goal of the postseason/

The Red Wings grabbed the lead for good in the second period when Smith delivered a one-timer for his second goal of the playoffs with assist from Zetterberg.

Franzen pushed Detroit's lead to 3-1 a little more than seven minutes into the third period before Filppula recorded the final tally at 12:03.
