Calgary, AB, Canada (4E Sports) - The Calgary Flames signed forward Paul Byron to a one-year deal Sunday to avoid an arbitration hearing scheduled Thursday.

No information regarding the deal was disclosed but reports said it is worth $900,000.

Byron played in 57 regular season games last season and collected 19 points (six goals, 13 assists).

The 26-year-old missed the Flames' playoff campaign and had surgery May for a sports hernia.

Byron also had wrist surgery June and a pin will be removed from the wrist in September as he hopes to be with the Flames when training camp begins.

The Flames acquired Byron through a trade deal with the Buffalo Sabres , the team that originally drafted him in the sixth-round back in 2007.
