Toronto, ON, Canada (4E Sports) - Toronto Maple Leafs right wing Phil Kessel expressed his dismay at the Toronto media, also addressing reporters after what he considered their mistreating of teammate and team captain Dion Phaneuf .

"I think the way the media treats Dion in this city is embarrassing," Kessel told reporters Tuesday.

The 27-year-old did not specify but said some must feel "ashamed" and should apologize to Phaneuf .

"Is it his fault we're losing? No. Did he build this team? No," Kessel said.

Kessel said he is tired of the media and their unfair reports on the Leafs' setbacks this season.

Kessel and Phaneuf have been heavily criticized for their leadership this season and are being questioned on their future with Toronto.

ESPN reported that the two were shopped before Monday's trade deadline and the Leafs will likely trade them during the offseason.
