San Jose, CA, United States (4E Sports) - Todd McLellan is no longer the head coach of the San Jose Sharks after both sides "mutually agreed" to part ways Monday.

"San Jose will always hold a special place for me and my family," McLellan stated.

The 47-year-old thanked Sharks GM Doug Wilson for giving him a chance to coach in the NHL.

"While we both agree that a change is in the best interest of myself and the team, I'm proud of what we accomplished as an organization," McLellan also said.

The former Sharks coach, who will man the sidelines for Canada in the 2015 IIHF World Championship in the Czech Republic, added that he want to coach again in the league.

McLellan became head coach on June 12, 2008 and leads the Sharks in wins with 311, games coached with 540 and points percentage at .637.

San Jose made it to the playoffs six times under McLellan including two Western Conference Finals in 2010 and 2011.

The Sharks missed the playoffs for the first time in 11 seasons this year and last season they bowed out after losing to the Los Angeles Kings in the first round despite having a 3-0 series lead.

McLellan amassed a 311-163-66 regular season record in his tenure with the Sharks.

"I want to thank Todd and his staff for their years of service to the San Jose Sharks organization," Wilson stated.

"Sometimes a change is best for all parties involved, but nothing will take away from what Todd and his staff accomplished here over the last seven seasons," he added.
