Martinez, Gaborik net power play goals as Kings subdue Coyotes

Los Angeles, CA, United States (4E Sports) - Defenseman Alec Martinez scored the go-ahead goal on a power play early in the third period as the Los Angeles Kings blasted the Arizona Coyotes, 4-2 Saturday at Staples Center.

A slap shot by Jeff Carter from 33 feet put the Kings up 1-0 in the first period.

A backhand by Martin Hanzal tied the game early in the second before a wrist shot by Kyle Chipchura put the Coyotes up 2-1 at 5:42 of the second.

On a power play in the 17th minute, Alec Martinez missed while Marian Gaborik's initial attempt was blocked by Connor Murphy.

Then Gaborik ripped a wrist shot into the netting to tie the game.

A power play goal by Alec Martinez from 28 feet put the Kings up 3-2 at 1:34 of the third period.

Then a tip-in by Trevor Lewis at 16:22 of the final period gave the Kings a 4-2 advantage.

Several last minute attempts by Coyotes players to rally were unsuccessful as the Kings went on to claim the win.

Jonathan Quick made 15 saves for the Kings while Devan Dubnyk stopped 31 shots for the Coyotes.
