Posted - 10/23/2006 : 14:51:39 According to this NHL.com article, his reasons for resigning have to do with burnout. He says that he was a bystander and let Holmgren sign Geoff Sanderson because he had a previous relationship with him. He said he wanted to avoid controversy. HAHAHAHAHAHA. Since when has Clarke wanted to avoid controversy. Sounds like he is passing the blame for building such a bad team.

Posted - 10/23/2006 : 13:45:52 Everyone has had a day to digest this mess in Philly. So what do you think? My take is that Clarke was probably told to resign by the owner. Since he was a Hart trophy winner and Stanley Cup champ as a player, he was given the chance to save some face in the city that still adores him. I am glad both Hitchcock and Clarke are gone, but their assistants took over so I don't see how much will change.
Maybe this is Karma getting back at Clarke for the insane offer sheet given to Ryan Kesler. |
