He was told last night, and the official announcement was made this morning.

Anyone surprised by this?
I would think not. When the season started I predicted he wouldn't last past Christmas. Old habits on the ice came back and as a result he takes the fall....for now. I say for now because I think before season's end we will likely see some of the core players on this team traded away. As an example, it wouldn't shock me in the least to see Kessel traded before the deadline.

the only surprise for me is the timing - when was the last time you saw a coach fired from a team when they had a winning record, and were in a playoff position at the time of the firing?

I figured that Carlyle would have lasted either the season, or until TOR was officially eliminated from playoff contention around mid-March...
