It was pretty sweet to see Jarome Iginla get his 50th goal of the 07/08 season last night. He got it in the 3rd period with only 7 minutes left. In case anyone missed it, the Flames trounced the Canucks 7-1 (Canucks beat the Flames 6-2 the previous week!)

You could tell that the Canucks were't into the game though. Would have been nice to see Trevor Linden get a point in possibly the last game of his career. And considering that it may also be Naslund's last game in Vancouver, (his contract is up) it would have been pretty special to see him get a goal too.

Anyway you could really see Iginla's teammates trying to feed him all night in an effort to get that elusive 50th. To the point where it was almost embarassing for him I think. But the feed from Nystrom on the goal was pretty sweet. Nystrom could easily have shot (he was in the slot) but he held onto it until Iginla got into position and fed him a 5 footer right into the wheel house. It was awesome! Even Keenan cracked a smile.

Now I'm just hoping for the Avalanche to lose today so the Flames finish one place higher in the standings. And as a bonus they would play the familiar Wild rather than the Sharks in the first round.

Nystrom defiantly had a goal himself. That was cool to see. And that was a huge class act by Jarome after the game to get all the Flames to shake Linden's hand. A classy game!!

Let's put this into perspective.

There have been only 87 players to get 50 or more goals since the first 50 goal season in 44-45.

Even more impressive, only 44 players have done this more than once.

Only 10 have done it 5 or more times in their career.

Gretzky and Bossy with 9 each

Lemieux, Dionne, and Lefleur with 6 each

Yzerman, Bure, Bobby and Brett Hull, and Esposito have 5 each.

None the less, the 50 goal season is a huge accomplishment, and even more so the 2nd time around. Nice Job Iginla. A good old St. Albert, Alberta boy!

I wonder how many Ovechkin is going to end up with??
