Columbus, OH, United States (4E Sports) - Nashville Predators defenseman Shea Weber won the 2015 AMP NHL Hardest Shot event registering a 108.5 mph shot, 0.3 mph short of Boston Bruins captain Zdeno Chara's record.

"I was surprised. I knew I got it. It's tough. You never know how hard it is until it registers on the gun," Weber stated.

"I got pretty much all I could into and you just hope for the best," he added.

The 29-year-old botched his first attempt missing the net with a 101.8 mph shot.

"The nerves obviously showed on the first one. You sit around for a couple hours and you're thinking about it. There is nerves. That might have been what happened," Weber said.

But he definitely did not miss his next attempt which was also the final shot of the competition.

Winnipeg Jets defenseman Dustin Byfuglien whose best shot came in at 97.3 mph said, "It's amazing. It's something you work on."

Chara was unable to attend because of a knee injury that has also bothered him this season.

Weber said Chara is still the man to beat adding that he was nervous of the competition.

"I just want to keep getting better every year," Weber also said. "You don't want to get worse. You want to continue to get better."

Weber will have the chance to beat Chara's record as the NHL All-Star event next season will be held in Nashville.
