Tampa Bay, FL, United States (4E Sports) - New York Islanders coach Jack Capuano was hit with an errant puck in the face in the third period of their 5-3 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 1 of the second-round Eastern Conference series Wednesday at Amalie Arena.

After the puck hit him, Capuano dropped to his knees and was quickly tended to by a team trainer before he was taken to the locker room with a towel on his face.

Assistant coach Doug Weight took over as bench boss in Capuano's absence. However, Capuano returned to the bench in the final minute.

The Lightning, for their part, lost forward Eric Condra in the first period after he took a massive hit from Islanders' Casey Cizikas at 4:45.

Condra and Cizikas were racing for a puck in Tampa's zone when the hit happened.

After Condra touched the puck to make a breakout pass, Cizikas made a clean body check, sending Condra back-first into the corner boards.

Condra was tended to by trainer Tom Mulligan, before teammates needed to help him off the ice.

"Yeah, that was a tough hit," said Tampa Bay coach Jon Cooper, adding that Condra was not taken to the hospital.

"Those are always tough when you're away from the boards. He unfortunately got caught. He was ... I saw him when he left, and it's an unfortunate situation. I don't have any medical update on how he is, but he was obviously shaken up on the play," he added.

Shane Prince scored twice during a three-goal first period and John Tavares had a goal and an assist in the Islanders' 5-3 victory over the Lightning.
