Bruins captain Zdeno Chara suffers knee injury, to miss 4-6 weeks

Boston, MA, United States (4E Sports) - Boston Bruins captain Zdeno Chara is expected to miss four to six weeks after suffering a knee injury that might need surgery, according to a source.

Chara suffered the injury in the first period of Thursday's 3-2 loss to the New York Islanders Islanders and did not return to the game.

After the game, Bruins coach Claude Julien told reporters that he did not have an update on Chara's condition.

"No, no report yet," Julien said. "I haven't even checked in on the situation. First of all, we won't know anything until he sees the proper people in the medical staff. Nothing right now."

Chara put up a big hit on the Islanders' John Tavares before finishing his shift with 8:13 remaining in the first period. After that, he went straight to the locker room.

Chara's loss was big for the Bruins' defensive unit, which is already a man down with Kevan Miller out indefinitely with a dislocated right shoulder.

"It's very tough," defenseman Dennis Seidenberg said. "[Chara is] our leader, and it's always tough when a guy like that goes down. We have to embrace the opportunity and play better and make up for that if possible."
