New York, NY, United States (4E Sports) - The New York Rangers will likely miss their second-leading scorer last season for their preseason opener as center Derek Stepan recently sustained a bruised foot.

Earlier this month, Stepan got hit on his left foot and ankle while playing in a scrimmage with his teammates.

Stepan kneeled down for a few moments before skating on one foot as he limped off the ice going to the locker room.

During that time a spokesperson stated that he was doing fine and nothing was serious.

The 24-year-old returned to the ice the next day.

But in a recent report by Newsday.com, Stepan suffered a bruised foot and is listed as day-to-day.

The injury also prevented him from participating in the team's preseason opener against New Jersey, which the Blueshirts lost as Michael Ryder scored twice for the Devils.

It is still unclear if the bruise is a new one or was a previous injury, though the x-ray results were negative.

Stepan was the Rangers second-leading scorer last season with 57 points. He had 17 goals and 40 assists in 82 games played in the regular season.

The Rangers reached the Stanley Cup Final with Stepan recording five goals and 10 assists in the playoffs.
