Pittsburgh, PA, United States (4E Sports) - Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Kris Letang was diagnosed with a concussion before being released from the hospital due to a hit by Arizona Coyotes forward Shane Doan.

Doan shoved Letang near the end boards with 4:45 remaining in the second period, causing the latter to fall backward with his head hitting the boards.

Letang remained seated on the ice at Consol Energy Center for several minutes while being treated by trainers.

Doan said he hit Letang just to stop him from "jumping by" and that he feels awful the injury happened.

Penguins forward Steve Downie fought Doan in "retaliation" but acknowledged the latter was not dirty and that Letang fell the wrong way .

The Penguins had three goals in the third to claim a 3-2 win.

Letang has played 69 games and is third among NHL defensemen with 54 points this season and is considered among the favorites to win the Norris Trophy. He is also third on the Penguins in scoring.
