Who do you think will be the first coach on the unemployment line this year and what time frame?

Burke has always been oblivious to how bad his teams are. EX: leaving Anaheim to go to Toronto (one of the most unbelieveable things I've ever witnessed).

Count season number 44 to the tally!

There was once a license plate in Toronto that abbreviated "Go Leafs" it read "Golfs".

Burke didn't leave Anaheim for Toronto because of the teams, he left because his kids are all living on the east coast. Not to mention I'm sure any GM would love the chance to work for a Canadian team, it may be a lot of pressure but if you pull it off the reward is huge. If Burke wins a Stanley Cup in Toronto the guy could run for mayor and win in a landslide.

I think Murray is doing amazing in LA and is pretty safe, but MacLean in NJ is having a terrible start and doesn't seem to have respect from his players he could go first.

As for replacements, I would love to MacT make it back behind a bench and Hitch (Hitchcock) deserves to be somewhere with some talent.

I'd like to see Nolan take over for Wilson, or, Ruff if his time comes....

I would think that Bruce Boudreau is one coach that is a likely candidate for getting the axe this season if he doesn't produce a team that vies for the Stanley Cup, heck I would have fired him last year after another disappointing playoff run.

It's not an Olympic year this year so I think Wilson could get fired if he doesn't get his defense and special teams rolling this season. Burke has a lot of money tied up in the Leafs defense and it really is all the Leafs have going for them. If the Leafs are as horrid this season as they were last season in pp's and pk's then he is good as gone, it may not be until the end of the year though...drat.

I agree with Torts, Sutter, and I would add Terry Murray to that list too. Those three coaches could be gone mid-season if nothing is going right.

I'm even more interested in who you think the replacement coach would be for any coach that could get the axe this year. If Wilson were to get fired the replacement could be....Ted Nolan (should be in the bold prediction thread).

I'm with Toxxik - Wilson, Sutter, Tortorella. All 3 teams expect improvement (relatively) over last year, and anything but a solid start would spell doom for any one of them.

Wilson or Crawford for sure, give em 25 games hahaha

Wilson, Sutter or Tortz ~ whichever makes it to 25 games and a losing record first.

Actually, now that you mention Calgary, Beans . . . I think that'll be the coach.

Sutter will be first, and it might only be two or three weeks in.

I would say that Barry Trotz is pretty safe as well.

Personally, I think the biggest pressure is in Calgary and if one Sutter goes the other will not be far behind.

Ultimately, if any teams gets off poorly compared to how they should in the first 20 games the coach will be gone. Any team rated as being one of the top 3 in their conference who is out of a playoff spot at the 20 game mark will see a new coach.

Definitely not Wilson, unless the season starts off like a nightmare as it did last season. Burke, his buddy, is not going to fire him mid season, and it isn't even his style anyway to do so.

The only other coach I can almost guarantee won't be fired first is Lindy Ruff . . . beyond that, all bets are off, especially after last year.

I agree that Wilson likely has the biggest target coming out of the gate.
I also look at Tortorella in NY, big pressure there to get the Rangers farther and many players do not like his method.

I think Marc Crawford in Dallas may also be in the Hot seat. He is supposed to improve the dreadful defense of that team, and be able to improve the PP. These reasons are why Nieuwendyk
hired him to begin with
