GM Murray has said he will be looking to make some moves to shake up his roster, namely trying to make a trade, So what do you think he can, will or should do?

here is a link of the tsn article on the subject:

I was at the Sens game tonight vs Montreal and they just don't seem to have any jump or sense of urgency to their game, yes it's still early in the season but you need to at least show up for a game against a division rival.

They definitely need to get a tougher D-man, losing Volchenkov was definitely a huge loss and I agree they definitely did overpay for Gonchar who has yet to really do much of anything.

Kovalev never should have been signed for $5M a year, he's lazy and doesn't have any heart and before he even played a game here he said he wanted to finish his career in Montreal, VERY SAD!!!

Alfie has been great but is near the end of his career along with Phillips, Gonchar so I say let the rebuilding process begin, get rid of Porcelain Pascal at the end of the year and look for a proven goalie. Keep Spezza here for sure, he is a point a game + #1 center and they could never get equal value I don't think by trading him.

I think if they continue as they are going now it will be Clouston and/or Murray that will pay the price for the poor performance on the ice.

The Senators need to add some offense up front.

The loss of Heatley, the no-show Kovalev, Cheechoo showing he was a one year show, Spezza having injury problems and Alfy aging, tells me that they need to re-build up front.

It's time for my beloved Senators to start shipping out aging veterans for picks/depth players, and re-building the club altogether i'm afraid.

But, unlike a lot of people, I say keep Spezza.

Spezza is a solid #1 Center in the NHL, and building around him offensively isn't a bad thing.

They can fail

he should jump in a hot tub time machine and get more out of the heatley deal for starters, kovalev on waivers (no one will trade for him, unless ottawa wants redden back), trade spezza to edmonton for prospects/draft picks, crap the bed for two/three years for high draft picks, a couple of decent signings with cap space free from alfy and gonchar contracts, then just add water for an instant stanley cup winning team.

I will agree that the Kovalev signing is turning into a bust but I think 5 games or whatever its been is a little to early to say that about gonchar. Although Murray has done an ok job I think it is time for Tim Murray to become manager because he has done such a great job with draft picks.

You miss 100 percent of the shots you don't take Wayne Gretzky

Had a few people jumping down my throat about Spezza not being so great ( in my opinion ) in an earlier tread Semin....and ur right, he along with other senators need to be a lot better.

Kovalev is a joke now, signing Gonchar at his age and injuries was so, so stupid in my opinion. Fisher`s mind is maybe outside the ice surface these days...and i don`t blame him. Ottawa should still have Chara and Volchenkov...big mistakes.

Spezza is a good player, but not a leader, no Mike Richards thats for sure....

In all seriousness, I agree somewhat about a rebuild, but, Ottawa still does have some decent core players. Kovalev I would get rid of, never would have grossly overpaid for Gonchar, never would have gotten rid of Volchenkov. I would have gone for Paul Martin instead of Gonchar, a solid defensive guy to shore that up.

Ah, heck . . . I can't even be serious about this thread - I hate Ottawa, I hope they fail and have a worse season than the Leafs did last year, and I hope they continue to underachieve.

Slozo, if you want them to be worse than the Leafs last year, you should also recommend they trade their first round pick next year to the Leafs for Grabo?

Tank and go for the number 1 overall draft pick that seems to be the only way to win the cup.

It seems to me that the Senators have become the kind of hockey team the Leafs used to be: A home for ageing, over-rated, over-paid players who produced as part of better, more balanced teams in the past, but no longer have the heart to win. What's the phrase? "Culture of losing?"

Poor Alfredsson. I've always had a grudging respect for the guy, but like Sundin in his last years he no longer has the support cast to make things work, and can't carry a team on his own. This is certainly a team in need of a blow-out and a re-build. Even if they turn things around and end up in the playoffs, they won't have the heart to go beyond the first round. Might as well trade guys like Gonchar and Spezza while other parts of the hockey world may still believe they are top level talent.

and while they're at it, get a real GM.

Quoted from another site:

The problem in Ottawa is Murray! He's the one that brought in a 36 year old Kovalev, a 36 year old Gonchar all one dimensional "me first" players. re-signing Alfredsson at 35 was a mistake. We can only get sick to our stomachs that he will re-sign an aging Philips this spring.
It's a young players game, even if players are in better shape nowadays their peak is typically between 26 and 30, with the last good years expiring at the age of 32. It has always been this way (except for exceptional players - key word exceptional).
Time to trade Gonchar, Philips, even Fisher... we have a goalie of the future more than half our defensive needs in the system - get some young prospects (but real prospects this time).
Murray has to go!

To me it reminds me of the over paid, underacheiving, sense of entitlement players the Leafs got rid of.
