I think perhaps he is just trying to add to his numbers. The more games he plays, the more wins/shutouts he can get and add to his records.
I think he's that kind of guy, which i am not saying is a bad thing. He wants to make his numbers unbeatable.
But then again I might be completely wrong about this.. it just wouldn't suprise me.

Posted - 10/30/2010 : 07:26:51 Just got news that there is a report that says they are going to retiere Scott Niedermayer's number 27.
So the guy walks into the bar with a dog and starts to watch the oilers game. They score and the dog does a flip in the air. The bartender says "That was cool, what does he do when they win?" to which the guy replies "I don't know, I've only had him for 15 years." |

Posted - 10/30/2010 : 02:33:51 I agree with Beans that there is no indication that Brodeur's best days are behind him, but I think that the Devils may want to consider playing Hedberg a bit more. Brodeur's age may not affect his talent but it may make a difference with his endurance. I don't understand why they play him so much when they have had decent back-up goalies. Check out the various back-up goalies stats in N.J. over the years and they're not bad. I think Brodeur should play in the vast majority of games, but is it neccessary for him to play 70 + games every year? |

Posted - 10/25/2010 : 15:47:33 Just like Brodeur said in an interview a few days ago, each year people tell him his best days are behind him and each year he is healthy he does nothing but lead the league in wins. It has been like that for nearly a decade. Until he actually goes through a season and isn't at or near the top, you can't say the guys best days are behind him. |

Posted - 10/25/2010 : 15:35:59 I keep telling some of my friends that they still see NJ in the days of S.Neid. and S.Stevens, plus Brodeur ( although still stellar at times ) isn`t getting any better anymore. Lets face it, Brodeur is getting older and his A - Day is behind him.
Then you have the Kovalchuk factor, sometimes adding this type of player changes every1 elses game. Instead of playing normally with each other as they were used to, now they are trying maybe too much to feed him the puck, thus throwing off every1`s mojo.
A new coach definitely changes things also. I don`t think NJ is as strong down the middle as some people would have you believe either. Last season Zajac had 67 points in 82 games...not exactly Thorthon like numbers. Then Zubrus came in 2nd with 27 points in 50 plus games, not exactly stacked at center. Arnott was a pretty good pick-up, but getting older and still only a 60 - 65 point man.
NJ are strong at the wing positions but so-so down the middle, plus and age-ing goalie and superstar defenseman long gone, this team is still good but not what it was. Still they should make the playoffs. |

Posted - 10/25/2010 : 15:06:41 What I see mostly is a new coach and a new system. They are not playing anywhere near as well defensively as fans have come to expect. They are throwing a reasonable amount of shots on goal but are not coming up with much offensive to speak of at all. They are dead last in the league in goals for and 25th in goal against which is a formula for a lot of lost games.
There was(is) also the issue of them being up against the cap and not being able to ice a full bench. That's a dangerous situation as well.
However, the team is far too talented to stay down for long and it is far too early in the season to push the panic button however the next 10 games are important. If they start out with a la Toronto circa 2009 they are in trouble. However, a 3-4 game winning streak and going 6-7 wins in their next 10 games and they will be fine. |
