Which conference is better: West or East? |

I definitly have a bias here (being a fan of the current champs), but I gotta vote western conference.
The 12th place team in the the west last year would've made the playoffs had they been in the east. That's more than a little lopsided I think.
Slozo is bang on though that the best in each conference are pretty evenly matched, with the east having a slight edge with Ovie, Crosby, Stamkos.
The arena wall in chicago should be credited with a goal. |

The east really personifies "the new NHL", it is also more exiting with teams like Washington and Pittsburgh, and players like Crosby, Ovechkin, and Stamkos.
My vote goes to the east.
There was once a license plate in Toronto that abbreviated "Go Leafs" it read "Golfs". |

I'd largely agree. I voted West.
I think the top teams in the east are easily as good as the ones in the west . . . but the bottom feeders in the east, especially the "bubble teams", are not as good. So I think overall, the west is tighter for those #6 - 14 spots, and those teams are of slightly better quality overall.
That being said, the most exciting team for me to watch is Washington (head and shoulders above everyone else in terms of hockey enjoyment) and then after that probably Pittsburgh, Philly. The defences for the top teams in the West tend to be a lot tighter, so although they have solid teams, tends to be slightly less exciting, even for a potentially explosive teams like a San Jose, Detroit, Chicago or Vancouver.

While I find the eastern conference more exciting to watch, the west plays on a more even field. And west teams usually beat east teams (from my experience).
My vote goes for the west. |
