Imagine my surprise to see that J.S. Giguere was placed on the NHL Allstar ballot, but Carey Price was not? I guess that 4-0 start by the Leafs had the entire hockey world thinking Stanley Cup for the Leafs, not just the Leaf fans themselves..WTF is wrong with the people who decide the 100 man voting list? Do they know anything about hockey? I mean, Jimmy Howard isn't even on the list. Pretty sad if you ask me. Price is having his best start of his short career, with 10 wins and a .928 sv% so far. Giguere has 4 wins and a .902 sv %....enough said I think.

Go Habs Go!!

Again another case in point for Giguere`s name on the ballot, Proir play...not this year...don`t agree with it but like i said a farce, they put who they want there.

At least Streit had a good year last year. JS hasn't had an all-star worthy season since 2007/08! 3 straight years of crap, and you still get on the ballot?

Guess some1 would have trouble explaining how Mark Streits play in the 2010 / 2011 regular season would put him on the all - star ballot... can you explain that one for me Beans ??

Based on this years play of course Price should be there, but he is not...is he.

hahaah i just noticed Mark Streit of the islanders on the ballot. He hasnt played in a single game this year and is out until at least January. The All-Star Game is officially a joke now.

Beans made the point that this ballot is based on this years play but that is never the case. It should be the case but not so. If this is the way its done Beans, why isn`t Semin on the ballot ?? answer me that ??

All-star balloting is a farce...nothing more

Awesome 1 ...he is reffering to the year before obviously

Well, part of the reason is that prior to the past 2 games Semin was not anywhere near the top of the league in scoring. 6 points in 2 games moved him from around 30th to the top 5. Furthermore, he has 8 points in his first 10 games and 14 points in his past 7.

When was the list made??

Furthermore, as I said before, each team needs representation. Teams with multiple talents players will often have a few players missed off the list. Not always the case, but often the case.

Finally, the All Star game this season has absolutely nothing to do with the past. It is how popular and productive the player is this seasons.

You need to get your facts straight....

there was no all-star game last year.

There was once a license plate in Toronto that abbreviated "Go Leafs" it read "Golfs".
ryan93 Posted - 11/14/2010 : 07:00:06
One ommision that jumped out at me was Alexander Semin, who is currently 4th in league scoring behind only Stamkos, Crosby & Ovechkin.

Going solely on this years play, definitely Carey Price deserves to be on the ballot, but theres examples like that everywhere. I'm a Rangers fan & i don't have to look any further then their own roster.

Marian Gaborik has only played 4 games this season (2 assists) and he's on the ballot, where as Brandon Dubinsky has been sensational all season and isn't. And on defense, if your going solely on this years play, then both Dan Girardi & Michael Rozsival would get the nod ahead of Marc Staal.

Payback?
You watch too much TV, son...
It will be nice to see Giggy prove just how bad he is on a bigger stage and not only on Onatrio TV.

giguere stinks. its disgusting how toronto centered the hockey world is. as far as popularity and fans are concerned montreal are on par with toronto. the whole leafs team should be neglected from voting. they havnt been relevant for 15 years
nuxfan Posted - 11/13/2010 : 21:03:08
Giguere didn't look very young on that GWG by Raymond tonight...
The Duke Posted - 11/13/2010 : 19:46:30
Nuxfan get a little more serious...those players you listed are soon ready for old age security...Giguere is still young, a little over - weight maybe..lol..
The Duke Posted - 11/13/2010 : 19:42:34
How can you say so early into the season that Price is on his way to comeback player of the year ? Give him another 20 games and that can be judged more accordingly.

Maybe he will soon lose 3 or 4 in a row and hit the dressing room wall again and injure his hand. ....or maybe from the bench he will hit some1 in the face with his stick again and get suspended...just kidding

By that logic, we should also be able to choose from such legends as Modano, Recchi, and Whitney. All have had very stellar careers in the past with many personal and team accolades, but are no longer significant factors in the league today.

I don't see them on the list though...
doublechamp7 Posted - 11/13/2010 : 13:53:52
This is just so stupid, montreal is 6th in the entire leauge, Toronto is 26th, this just proves that people think players are good just because their on Toronto, Price has been playing great, Gigure has been meh. This is ridiculos
Beans15 Posted - 11/13/2010 : 13:44:49
Not a big difference at all. The All Star game is based on this seasons and this season only. Who has done what in the past is completely irrelevant.

Straight up, best players wanted, there is no way Giguere deserves the spot over Price. Price is on his way to being comeback player of the year. Giguere is on his way to signing a weak deal in the offseason to be a back up somewhere.

Big difference
The Duke Posted - 11/13/2010 : 13:36:38
Lancerific....didn`t Price have another short stint in his short career where he was brilliant for a couple of months before he tanked into no mans land and couldn`t stop a beach ball ??

Giguere has a stanley cup ring ( 2007 ) and i think / not sure he is only the second player in NHL HISTORY to win the playoffs most valuable player ( 2003 ) on the LOSING TEAM !!

Price may accomplish many things in his career / maybe not....but until he does, many other players are like him, bubble players to be nominated for things like this.

Giguere has been there - done that
Price hasn`t yet been there - or done that....big difference.

Furthermore, each team needs some kind of representation. Considering the Leafs have no one other than Giguere (at least at this point) who anyone can say has played well he is in. As there are only so many goalies, guys get left out.

Montreal, at the top of the NE, has more than Price to thank. Guys like Plekanec and Kostisyn can fill an All Star spot to this point this year.

I'd put Kaberle or Kessel well ahead of a ballot than Giguere, considering their importance to a very lackluster squad. The All-star game is a joke, in Montreal the Habs almost won the entire lineup. Fan voting is a joke, it adds nothing, and is just stupid.

It makes the NHL look pathetic.

One would have to know what the organizers are looking at in terms of measure before criticizing one choice over another. From what I can tell, its based on a mixture of last year and this year stats?

However, forget Price for a second - the fact that Giguere is on the ballot AT ALL is a bit disturbing. Sure, you can factor in that placement on the ballot is based on last year's statistics, so Giguere's pretty crap start doesn't come into play. But last year he was only 10-15-7, in 35 starts - hardly all-star numbers. So how does Giguere get onto this ballot?

If last year is the measure, then its understandable that Price didn't make it, as he wasn't starting last year at all. But hey, it gets worse - because that doesn't explain Rask, Leighton, Howard missing. HOWARD - really? A Calder finalist with a 37-15-10 record, 2.26 gaa and .924 SV%. How does he miss the ballot, but Giguere makes it?

Just another reason to not like the allstar game I suppose.
