Where has Ovechkin been this year?!?!?!?!?!?!?
There was once a license plate in Toronto that abbreviated "Go Leafs" it read "Golfs". |

Posted - 12/04/2010 : 11:40:20 Nuxfan you're right!
Just not enough goals scored today to reach 50 in 50.
My picks for it : Stamkos, Crosby, Ovechkin (from last year) or Kovalchuk (from 2 or 3 years)
Badly, I have Kovi in my pool, what happen with this guy !!! |

Posted - 12/04/2010 : 11:06:03 It will never happen - 9 goals in 2 games, that is soooo 1984.
When was the last time you saw 5 goals in a game? Marian Gaborik did it in 2007, and before that, Fedorov did it in 1996. Twice in the last 15 years. 4 goal games, maybe once a year. The game has changed too much, players don't get those opportunities anymore. |

Posted - 12/04/2010 : 00:59:09 Just as an interesting side note to the 50 in 50 discussion:
Many people don't know this but the year Gretzky did it in 39 games it was with nine goals scored in his last two games. That's right, 9 in 2!
I suppose Stamkos could still do that. |

Posted - 12/03/2010 : 21:03:49 Is it possible? Yes. Will it happen? No, probably not.

Posted - 12/03/2010 : 19:52:07 Probably not going to happen.
Their 2nd 25 games look harder than their 1st 25. |

Posted - 12/03/2010 : 18:07:31 possible. but i never expected it in the first place.

Posted - 12/03/2010 : 16:28:14 Agreed, that's how I took it. I'd say there are maybe 3-4 guys who could potentially do it on a given year with everything falling into place for them.
Ovie Stamkos Crosby
Outside of outside chances (if all the stars aligned) Gaborik (Gets a super center) Heatley (and Thornton have the year Thornton and Cheech had only this time it's Heatley and from game 1) dare somebody say Kovalchuk (He's scored 6 straight + 40s, what if he had a dynamo center) yes I'll risk getting ridiculed for this because of his current year. |

Until we hit game #51, it's technically still possible I would love to see it, but it's unlikely that it'll happen.
Damn I hate how the media has to make a big deal about of "possibilities" and "could happen" events... especially when they're not even close! 19G in 19games is impressive, but i'll pay attention to your nonsense when Stammer/Squidney have 40 goals in 40 games...

Posted - 12/03/2010 : 16:19:42 I voted NO, even though it is "possible". I assumed that the question was meant in a "do you think he still has a good chance" or "do you think he will..." kind of way?
I don't think ANYONE is going to do it, however, nothing's impossible and if it were anyone, it'd have to be Crosby or Stamkos at this point. |

Posted - 12/03/2010 : 15:30:33 What about anyone else this year? Is anybody in the league capable of this? |

Posted - 12/03/2010 : 14:23:21 Is it possible? Yes, is it gonna happen? Probably not. He is a very dynamic player who has the ability to run a couple hattricks together and get back on the pace, but keeping that pace for 50 games? I don't think its gonna happen, it is possible though.

Posted - 12/03/2010 : 14:08:01 It was never going to happen in the first place. The media saw 19 in 19 and jumped all over it. That was ridiculous. There were 31 more goals to be potted in. This discussion should have happened if Stamkos hit 35 in 35, or 40 in 40. But c'mon 19 in 19 was way too premature even with Stamkos playing as dynamic as he was.
It's rare enough to see 50 goal seasons. Stammer and Crosby hit 51 last year in a full season and that was very good (good enough for the Richard). Stammer is now at 21 in 26 and that's still amazing, pacing 66 goals for the year, that alone would be incredible. But 50 in 50 (or less) I'd wait a little longer to start writing articles about it than after 19 games. |
