Posted - 12/09/2010 : 09:14:16 Beans, I think you said you were at the Oilers / Ducks game. Heard on the radio that a lot of Oilers fans were booing Lupul? What were the circumstances with his Edm departure? Did he ask for a trade?
They were commenting on how he'd been out of hockey for over a year, dealing with serious back/neck issues as well as another injury i can't recall? Something to do with a blood infection that i believe occurred due to surgeries he required for his back??? Apparently he was down 30-40 pounds at one point? Not sure of all the details?
Anyway, i'm just curious to know why the Edm fans would be booing him? Was it just a handful of bozo's or is there some sort of Pronger-like hate towards this guy?
After what he's gone through to get back, sounds like harsh treatment? |

Now, if I could only figure out what WE are spending MY money I would really be getting somewhere.
Guest 9884 you are part of the Wild, The Wild organization is from the Coaches above. Maybe you can include the players in there too. You on the other hand, a fan are a part of the Wild. The organization is the company, and I don't think you work for the company. The Wild is the out doors Jk; the Minnisota Wild team is you, you are a part of the team. NOT THE ORGANIZATION
Beans sort of wrote the same thing but I hope this clears it up more. |

No, YOU are not part of the Wild Organization. Their fans are. One fan is not. If you never watched another game or put a single penny into the the team in any way, shape, or form it would have zero impact on the team. You do not make decisions that impact the team on a day to day basis or even long term.
If you were part of a group that owned part of the team and had voting rights, that's one thing. But you are not part of the Wild Organization in any way.
There is the Wild, then there is you who is a fan of the Wild. |

We??? We??? Name yourself sir (or madam) as you are obviously a member of the Oilers Organization as you are making statements using 'we'.
Getzlaf was never part of the Pronger deal. Nor was Perry. Lowe asked for both at different times(based on who you believe) and Burke told him to go fly a kite.
Lupul was better than getzlaf at the time |

Sports fans are the only group in the world who some how feel they are part of the organization and speak as such.
When Steven Adler was kicked out of Guns n Roses, did "We" kick him out???
It's just a personal thing so don't read too much into it, but man does it annoy me.
Wait Steven Adler was kicked out of Guns and Roses?? when did this happen?

Posted - 12/12/2010 : 08:29:14 Yah, I get what you're saying. I especially love it when people believe that their own superstitions effect the team. "Oh, they lost today because I didn't wear my jersey," or something to that extent. |

Posted - 12/11/2010 : 09:34:30 Who puts $1 million into the Oilers' bank account every home game? The players/management? I don't think so. If people that pay money to support their team can't use whatever terms of language that they choose, then what's the point of having a voice at all? And Beans states that the fans have zero impact on the team, so if the Oilers showed up to an empty arena every night, that wouldn't impact the team? That would be roughly $40 million less in a year for the organization. As for the topic... every fan in the league boos players that used to be on their team, unless it was their star player for 10 years or somethin'. Especially in Edmonton, 'we' (the fans - not the organization... Beans) will boo anyone for the fun of it. Even Ryan Smyth! |

It's just annoying to me. I think it comes mostly from listening to sports radio in Edmonton and hearing how many morons call in to the Team 1260 and say all the things 'we' should do to fix the team. Seriously, is it that much hard to say "The Oilers had a great call up in Omark" compared to "We had a great call up in Omark."
If you are part of the team, talk We all you want. If you are a fan, act like one. |

Posted - 12/10/2010 : 15:18:22 He may have had me if I did not clearly say "depending on who you believe." I never eluded to having first hand knowledge. That is the scuttlebutt as discussed around Edmonton in the media, on fan sites, through rumors both inside and outside of the organization. I do know a few people who work for the Oilers and I do at times here some internal rumors. They are not high positions however they do hear the water cooler talk. However, I never cite that as fact nor assume I am part of that group.
I am still not part of nor elude to being a part of the Oilers. Fans often talk about their team in the possessive terms. Us, we, etc. It's infuriating. You have zero impact on the team. You should refer to the team you cheer for as just that. You are not part of them. You are a fan. |

Posted - 12/09/2010 : 16:35:12 Beans....thanks for the info. At no point was i trying to stir the pot re Oilers fans but on the radio, they mentioned he was booed throughout the game. Poor reporting if what you say is true. I'm only going on heresay.
Guest4830....my apologies, i misunderstood what you meant when you said he was booed in the shootout. Having been at last nights game in Van, i assumed you were referring to that. Had you made it a little clearer by saying "Oilers fans only booed him during the shootout", it might have been a little easier to catch what you meant. Either way, your "get over yourself" comment, while unnecessary, is noted. |

That's what I was talking about. The Oilers and Ducks went to a 10 round shootout on Tuesday night. No one care about Luongo or the canucks. Get over yourself.
Exactly right. No Anaheim players were booed during the game. Only during the shoot out. However, both Lupul and Visnovsky did get a few louder boos than the others during the shoot out.
As far as Lupul leaving Edmonton, he was part of the trade involving Jason Smith when Edmonton got Pikanen, Geoff Sanderson and a 3rd round pick from Philly.
He as not the most productive guy when he played for the Oilers but he sure didn't leave on bad terms.
But there wasn't any specific booing to Lupul, just during the shoot out. |

Posted - 12/09/2010 : 09:43:24 Where is that "worst fans in Canada" thread when you need it...
Lupul had the misfortune of being the promising young main part coming back to EDM in the Pronger trade, and then not performing to expectations. After a 50pt season the year before, he got 28 with EDM, and generally didn't perform well. I don't think he asked for a trade (Beans may correct me), but he left under a cloud of failure, and his lack of performance probably made the distaste of the Pronger trade all that much more distasteful.
The other piece of that trade, Smid, is still with the Oil and seems to be a pretty reliable dman. So it wasn't all a complete fail.
If he was booed, that is pretty classless. |
