Posted - 04/10/2011 : 14:53:50 Hawks playoff matchup? May be the golf course, unless the Wild beat the Stars on the last game of the season! Gotta be tough for Chicago players (and fans) to wait for the result of the Dallas-Minnesota game to find out if they make the playoffs. I hope they make it, not because I favour one team over the other. I just prefer to see the reigning champs in the playoff, even an extremely dismantled team like the Hawks! What did they lose in players from the squad which won the cup last year? 10 players? Wow! |

Although i`m not a huge numbers guy...Yoy have to admit that these numbers are almost identical. If anything, Nabokov`s numbers are slightly better in the post season....this just says that SJ hasn`t any goal-tending advantage than in the past.
It doesn't take into account the very jekyll/hyde hear that Niemi has had though. He was a dog up to Christmas and wasn't even starting regularly, but has been one of the best goalies in the NHL since then stats-wise.
The question for SJ is, which Niemi will they see in the postseason? |

We've been saying that for the last 4 years... no shakeup. I doubt there will be one this year either if they falter. |

Posted - 04/10/2011 : 08:39:13 Neimi is a lot better than Nabokov ??
2010 - 2011 regular season with SJ Neimi..... Save %.... .920.....GAA.......2.38
2009 - 2010 regular season with SJ Nabokov.Save %......922.....GAA.......2.43
Neimi..playoffs with the Hawks 2009 - 2010 Save %...... .910.........GAA.....2.63
Nabokov..playoffs with SJ 2009 - 2010 Save %...... ..907.......GAA..... 2.56

Nabokov has let in the odd softie, but so as Neimi. Time will tell with the Sharks, they`ve always got a cup favorite but for some reason they falter.....if San Jose doesn`t at least go to the Stanley Cup finals this year.....look for some major shake ups on that hockey team. |

Posted - 04/09/2011 : 19:46:41 Hawks will be tough. They have gone through the Stanley Cup test already, and their key guys are all healthy and raring to go. They wil go as far as their rookie goaltender will take them.
I think they'd finally lose against Vancouver, but a very tough series. Against Detroit or San Jose . . . I say it's even odds.

Posted - 04/09/2011 : 19:12:09 Chicago will be tough, for sure. I don't agree with the posters who say Vancouver will win easy over them. As far as I'm concerned, the Canucks are very over-rated. Time will tell, but I hope the Hawks get in and face Vancouver because the Canucks will have all of the pressure on them and the Hawks have their number. It should be fun. |

Posted - 04/09/2011 : 19:01:42 You guys are drinking too much homer koolaid if you think anyone is going to have an easy time with the Hawks.
Not claiming the Hawks are in any shape to repeat, but here's one guy who will not be surprised to be betting on them in the second round
The arena wall in chicago should be credited with a goal. |

Unbelievable speed, skill, grit, fore-checking, scoring chances etc...for both teams. especially Chicago.
Sometimes a team has stanley cup hang-over for a duration of the season, Hawks look very, very dangerous to me.
Since Jan. 29 th / 2001 until now the Hawks have collected 37 points....the Canucks ( 2nd best in the league with 42 points - tied with the leafs )...thats only a 5 point difference, not much to call here. 2 extra wins doesn`t say much with all these games played.
Chiago is one team i definitely would not want my favorite team playing early in the playoffs....as for any other NHL team as you say ( owning them ), NO WAY...ain`t gonna happen.
San Jose has the best record since Jan. 29 th, 47 points...but don`t they do this every year during the regular season ??
they did ok last year with Heatley, and neimi is alot better than nabokov |

Posted - 04/09/2011 : 16:33:17 You're right Duke, owning them is probably overstating it...however, I simply don't find them very impressive at all this year....In these last 10 games, I expected them to absolutely pour it on and be at the top of the six teams they've been fighting with for a playoff spot...instead, they have the worst record in the top 8 of the West over that span aside from Detroit, tied with L.A. who have been without their top 2 forwards....they should be safe but with one game remaining, they could still miss the dance all together....
I expect Detroit may have trouble with them but nobody else in the top 3....I think Detroit may have trouble with anyone in the 1st round though |

Posted - 04/09/2011 : 15:49:56 the only team that Chicago is likely to play and possibly beat is Detroit as they seem to be limping into the playoffs even worse that the Blackhawks.....Chicago will be owned by Van or S.J. should they play them |
