Will these be suspension's?
I cant seem to find any video of these hits on You Tube but I found a video of Gagne getting asked about it after the game.

From the Quick Highlights I saw yesterday and I would llike to see them again before my final judgment....
The Downie hit reminded me of the Torres hit so no suspension. (not sure if Downie brought up the elbow or left his feet in the replay I saw so not 100% sure). One thing is Downie has a history so we will see what happens.
The Kunitz hit I also only saw 1 replay on but that to me was 100% Elbow at Head and has to be a suspension. If someone has any good videos of either hit please post! |

What was Kunitz thinking? And right in front of the ref too! He's on 2 of my pool teams. Not like it matters though. I don't know why I picked him.

Well, we are back to the drawing board with determining suspension length from Campbell . . . two steps forward, one step back. OR two steps back?
The Kunitz hit is the worst, and is a clear cut malicious elbow to the head. I don't think many can argue otherwise, that is how clear it is, and we can see that by the comments here.
To me, that is a 8, 10 game suspension. Send the message for chrissakes . . . 'cause they are just. not. getting. it.
The Downey hit is at least closer . . . but he did leave his feet, and two games was probably more appropriate.
How Kunitz gets only one game is . . . beyond me. Brutal play. Even more brutal decision by Colin Campbell to suspend him for only one game.

It looks to me as though Downie did in fact leave his feet to initiate the hit. Tough to tell for sure at that speed but it looks like it imo. Even tougher to tell if the elbow was out or just comes up due to loss of balance but 1 game is okay by me, however with his reputation, i'd have been okay with 2 as well. 
Kunitz's was blatant! Def could have seen another game or two tacked onto the 1 game he did get! |

I think the NHL dropped the ball on the Kunitz suspension. I'm fine with the 1 game for Downie but only 1 game for Kunitz? Seriously!?
Jovanovski got 2 games last year before the headshot rule for the following play.

The only difference I see is that Kunitz's is a blindside hit which means it should be at least 2 games I'd say more... But I guess we have to realize there will never be any consistency in the NHL rulings...

Downies hit is not even close to Torres, if Downie does not jump to emphasize the highlight reel hit there is no suspension and this is a stellar highlight reel hit. For whatever reason Downie has this mindset that he must always leave his feet, Canada vs Russia Jrs, hit on McCammond & now this on Lovejoy. Guys look again if you stay on your feet momentum will carry you through someone (Torres stayed on his feet) leaving your feet stops your momentum on impact, thus the reason Downie stopped dead in the air & landed on Lovejoy
Now what completely seperates this hit from Torres is if he does not leave his feet it is a total hockey play with a charging penalty. Lovejoy releases the puck, sees Downie coming & gets run over from a solid shoulder (minus the charge & leap) as downie is finishing the hit.
Torre's on the other hand ran a guy over (blind sided) who never even got to make a play on the puck. Other then both being big time impact their is nothing similar to those hits.
Kunitz "F***in stupid" how do you emphasize to your 3rd & 4th liners in the league no head hits & then allow your first and second liners to get away with s**t like this. One game, regardless of his history is not enough. Downright blatant stupidity. I'm down with TSN that they need to create a rule known as the Stupidity clause. Pens Fan or not this was a great time for Campbell to shut people up & lay the boom for a completely ignorant play. I would of told him you can join Matt Cooke for 10gms.
Campbell needs to go! Torres hit wasn't a charge (in what world) Downie clearly suspended on history, & Kunitz gets a lousy one game. It's amazing how 10 rd's of scotch will obscure your vision.
Can't wait for his reasoning on the Kunitz suspension "We'll after seeing the 10 elblows fying trough the air I come to conclshion none of dem made contict & so he getsss 1 gms for the attent" Make sure ja fild the budle for tanight.

I give up trying to understand the NHL's way of thinking!!
Kunitz hit = 2 or more games imo
Downie hit = ok maybe they got that correct but tham what about the Torres hit. I cant wait to hear what the NHL has to say now!

I see Downie leaving his feet and I also see Downie's hit as more of a charge than Torres. Both should be suspesions but I think TB has a pretty solid case if Downie gets a couple of games when Torres got nothing. Not even a fine???
Kunitz, absolutely intentional, target the head, not a hockey play. Everything that is bad in the game. He will get some time for sure. If not, I am completely baffled by NHL discipline. |

I think its more momentum causing Downie to leave his feet than him jumping up. I also saw no elbow, he's going shoulder first, and he seems to clearly hit the head with that shoulder. Very similar to the Torres hit IMO.
The Kunitz hit reminded me of the Cooke hit that got him suspended right before the playoffs - cruising by and lifting an elbow to make a headshot. I don't know if Kunitz is a repeat offender or not, but suspendable for sure. |

From that video of Downie I would say not really much elbow if any, however i cant tell if he leaves his feet before the hit or if it is just the momentum that bring him off his feet. This will be interesting to see what the leauge decides!
Kunitz hit I cant imagine anything less than 2 games after seeing that replay again. It is 100% intentional if you ask me. |

I agree, the Downie hit looks nearly identical to the Torres hit, so I would imagine no suspension if they want to maintain consistency.
The Kunitz hit was a definite elbow to the head of Gagne - plus, it wasn't behind the red line in the "you're allowed to do anything" area, so I would think this is a clear cut supension, 1 game. |
