I have to say, I'm a bit surprised by this signing - specifically the length and dollar amount for a one-year wonder (so far) coming off an EL deal. There is no denying that he is talented, but its interesting that NYI didn't sign to a shorter deal first, to see if he can do it again, before getting into the longer term deal. The fact that Grabner took it might also seem worrying, although no one knows the type of negotiation that went on.
If he keeps scoring 35 goals a year or more, then this will seem like a steal. However, if he turns back into the inconsistently productive forward that played in VAN and could not crack the FLA lineup less than a year ago, then this just becomes another head-scratching NYI signing. |
