Posted - 05/17/2011 : 14:24:42 Alexi Yemelin or Emelin (tsn spelt it one way Bon Mckenzie the other) has Signed a 1 year 2 way contract with the Montreal Canadians the terms were not disclosed but it is estimated at 984 000 $ with a clause that if he is sent to the AHL he can go back to Russia. Yemelin is 6ft 2 223 pounds and lead KHL defensemen last year with 11 goals, but is known more as a physical defenseman with a nasty streak.
Seems like the kind of defenseman the Canadians need to clear the front of the net for Carey ,
this brings the habs d men under contract for next year up to 3 , Yemelin Subban and Spacek
I can only assume and hope Spacek will not be suiting up for the habs next year as it was clear to everyone the NHL game has passed him by and is simply to fast for him. Leaving Subban and Yemelin signed
According to Mckenzie Markov is as good as signed to mentor Yemelin (which worries me because of all the injuries in the past two season) But if the habs doctors think his knee is ok and he will take a discount Markov is extremly effective when healthy so i can see why the habs would take the risk, plus he is apparently well respected by all the young Russian players so it will be good for Yemelin.
Gorges is a RFA and a huge part of the habs lockeroom he will be back.
Weaber looked good at the end of the year and is an RFA aswell he will be with the big club this year
Apparently Gill wants to stay a hab and will take a discount to do so.
so that leaves the habs with Subban - Markov Gorges - Gill Weaber- Yemelin
which isn;t terrible but still lacks something to me
