Was the 3 game suspension to Alexander Ovechkin fair?

Hey guest, the All Star Game isn't for the players, it's for the fans. OV like usual, thinks of himself, not the game.

I completely disagree with him skipping the game and i'm not a huge fan of his, but i would have no problem had he decided to play and in fact would approve of it. NO WAY would i be bitching that he shouldn't play because he's suspended!

well said FER. I think Ovi is being a serious little bitch about his suspension by not playing the all star game. He obviously feels he shouldn't have been suspended at all, therefore he will punish the fans. This guy has officially won the no class award in my books. So if Ovi wants to punish the fans of hockey, I hope this jerk gets booed wherever he goes from now on, maybe sales of Ovechkin paraphanaleia will decrease, and within a year or so he fades into obscurity. Seems like Ovi needs a tissue.

Wonder if Tim Thomas will end up showing up to our Nations capital after deciding not to visit his own

I hear ya and agree to a point, it's just a shame that he and his entourage(GM and owners), had to use the all star game as an excuse to vent, when it would have been so much easier and classier to separate their own agenda from that of the league's and subsequently it's fans.

I would have much rather heard them state something along the lines of 'although we disagree with the suspension levied, the all star game and weekend is a showcase of the games great stars, and we feel Alex is exactly that, and want to ensure the fans get to see his talents and skills, in an atmosphere that is all about the fans.'

Geez, I may be in the wrong business, had I read something like that, I may have actually started liking Ovie again!.......maybe.

I believe both Lidstrom and Selanne asked that they be excused from the game and weekend, big difference, one says class, the other....not so much.

If he hadn't gotten suspended he would have been there for sure, and actually that's one of the few times his 'colorful' personality gets a chance to be shown in a positive light for the fans.. Now unfortunately, the only color he's showing is a sort of purple/brown sour grapes color.

Here, Here FER
And now to boot Ovie is not attending the all star game as protest to his suspension.
Tis a shame, he likely is trying to avoid being picked last this year or at least second last so he does not get the car. I think his antics are starting wear thin on most people.

All the god-given talent and skill in the world, and this guy still doesn't get it. I've gone on tirades in numerous posts before about what a dirty, and dangerous player he can be, and once again, he's only justifying what I argued previously.

Totally unnecessary for him to leave his feet, and blatant disregard for the player's safety. If he wasn't one of the few remaining stars still playing at this time, I wonder what his suspension could have been.

The only thing worse, is that he, and more disturbingly, his team GM and ownership, are crying the blues about this, IMO, light suspension, and much like a kid on a playground, go on about how well he's not going to the All-star game then!

It's a total shame that someone can't curb Ovechkin just enough to get him to not only play, but act, with some class and consideration. Too many antics both on and off the ice, for someone of his talents.

Interesting to see a response like this as i actually listened to the guys on the radio discuss this at length. Their take (and sorry, i can't recall who it was) was that they figured it'd be one, maybe two games and that Shanny added a third because OV is a repeat offender.

I personally, think 3 was perfect punishment, ESPECIALLY if the league is going to gauge suspensions on results of hits, which they seem to now do. If Michalek had been ko'd and left the game with a concussion, i'm sure Shanny would have given him 7+.
Guest5744 Posted - 01/24/2012 : 09:59:01
lol ovechkin strikes back. he wont be attending the all-star game as he feels he doesn't deserve to be there if he is suspended. he obviously did not think it was suspension worthy and is getting back at shanny for making him miss 3 (*now 4) games.

if he wasn't targeting his head, why did he leave his feet? if there was no intent to injure, why did he leave his feet?

he came in like a freight train, and decides to jump anyway? sorry, but that's a dirty hit and is completely suspension worthy.

It does almost seem that the league was a little soft on Alex the "great" Is Shanny backing up a little because it's Ovi? I think so. regardless of who threw it, the moment he jumped off the ice, especially aiming for the head it became a really dirty hit. It probably should have been at least 5, but many people such as myself probably still have Ovi in a hockey pool, so as a poolie, I'll be happy with just 3. Thanks Shanny
Guest1765 Posted - 01/24/2012 : 04:36:22
IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN TEN GAMES!!!!
Or maybe even more. Michalek was ready for the hit and Ovechkin leaves his feet and makes contact with his head. Send a message to the league, this is the kind of crap that needs to be out of the game.
