Posted - 02/01/2012 : 22:46:58 Anyone see the clip tonight of Alexander Radulov? It was very brief, as is the clip attached, but it's enough to nominate this clown as "idiot of the year", even if it is only early February!
I don't know what led to this, but c'mon, WTF could possible warrant such an action? Uhhhh, NOTHING? This sort of thing makes me sick......
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WFQAsocbq3Y
I'm guessing this just happened, maybe even tonight, so there's no word on any suspension (if any)? I would sure hope that if the league doesn't step in, that his team does something to discipline such an inexcusable move. |

Posted - 02/06/2012 : 16:34:04 Hmmm, thanks for the update 4178!
Still no takers on the Pollyanna train but me?
I am starting to think even moreso now, that this was unintentional against the coach.
Shame on all you heartless pundits that had the poor boy in the gulag, 2 seconds after video showed up!!! |

Posted - 02/06/2012 : 10:39:09 I was just checking the web to see if there were any updates on Radulov. (To see is he was suspended or not.)
He's definitely still playing, and how about this for karma – he lost three teeth in a game yesterday when he was highsticked by an opposing player. Maybe this player is related to his coach? :) |

Its all good man! Enjoy the rest of the season! |

Posted - 02/04/2012 : 22:39:02 I know you were only joking about the Mutha Russia bit, it's just that he is already there, and you said he should be, and since he already was......I hate being sarcastic....and having to explain it!
I'll 'take er easy eh', which I'm guessing is a slant about being Canadian? If so, good one, better than your first attempt about deporting Radulov to a country where already is, anyways. |

It was a 'joke' Obviously Moutha Russia is not a country, Russia is though. So chill out, take er easy eh |

Posted - 02/04/2012 : 10:31:57 Mutha Russia, must be a country I never heard of, as Radulov plays in the KHL which is a professional league operating in the Soviet Union, or Russia.
Just checking for clarification, as I'm sure no one would come on a hockey site and make such an obviously uneducated statement without doing some homework.....would they? |

Posted - 02/04/2012 : 03:21:55 Who does this clown think he is?
should be deported back to mutha russia |

Posted - 02/03/2012 : 21:06:17 Maybe this happens more often than is caught on camera.... If its just common place to whack the coaches across the head... or its a hockey equivalent of bagging someone, and the coach got him earlier in the day.... The coach just responds with 'Yeah, ya got me...' I mean, Come on, Its Russia.... god only knows whos drunk and how far stuff like that'd go.... |

Posted - 02/03/2012 : 14:14:36 Just checked out Radulov's stats, and he leads the KHL in goals, assists and points. (23, 36, 59 in 44 games.)
He had 80 points in 54 games last year, and recognizing that Jagr tallied 51 points the same year, Radulov is a pretty good player.
This does not excuse his act (of course), and you can add me to the list of people who do not believe his slash was accidental.
It will be interesting to see if the league (or his team) does anything. It's been two days since the incident, and nothing yet. |

Posted - 02/02/2012 : 22:38:47 FER.... I'd like to think you're right! But i don't. Radulov is looking at him pretty much the entire time! It's not as though he swung without looking and then was surprised the coach got in the way. Add to that, the lack of apologetic reaction. That little, very quick, hand gesture was pretty weak if that's his apology! If i hit a guy like that by mistake, i'd certainly make a better effort to apologize.
I hope we find some more info on this?
ETA.....Lol, looking for more info on this and read a random comment from a reader: "Shanahanov better have a look at this"! |

Posted - 02/02/2012 : 22:20:34 Just wondering, if it does come out that it was a bad judgement on Radulov's part, and he did indeed hit him by accident, should he still be disciplined?
Or is persecution all in the perception?
I've gone back and watched a dozen or more times, and each time I watch it, that raised left hand immediately after, seems to me anyways, to be an act of contrition.
I am guessing Russian fans have more of that soccer fan mentality, and as such, can only imagine what the heckling must be like in the KHL.
If that is what the case was, and he was lashing out a heckler, it seems kind of silly to hang the boy up for it, after all, Tie Domi only got a game for beating up a fan.
I cannot fathom that the slash was intended for the coach and there was no reaction whatsoever, that's what makes it even clearer to me he wasn't the intended target. |

Posted - 02/02/2012 : 19:36:58 I don't like bringing the law into transgressions on the ice, or in this case, what took place on the bench.
But this looks like assault to me. What if someone did this to their boss at work?
Not only would you lose your job, but you would would be arrested, charged, and most likely, face jail time.

Posted - 02/02/2012 : 19:06:37 Just rewatched it, I don't think I buy that. The way Radulov was looking back as he swung his stick, he definitely had to of seen his coach. If he hit him by accident, you would have to think his reaction after hitting him would of been different. I still can't get over the reaction, or lack there of, by the coach lol. Too bad the clip wasn't a bit longer, it all happens so fast. |

Posted - 02/02/2012 : 19:03:05 I just got home from rec FER and I brought it up in the dressing room before our game. One of my teammates said that's what he thought happened, that Radulov was being heckled by fans behind the bench and he went to smash his stick off the glass & accidentally hit his coach. I'll have to go rewatch the clip... |

Posted - 02/02/2012 : 18:09:49 Maybe I'm going way out on a Pollyanna limb here, but to me, I wonder if it wasn't Radulov reacting to some heckling, and nailed the coach by accident instead of hacking the protective barrier.
Immediaely after the strike he raises his left hand, in what I consider to be anyways, an 'I'm sorry' kind of gesture. That and the non-reaction of the coach.
Still childish, but maybe not as intended and malicious as it appears at first glance. |

Posted - 02/02/2012 : 15:43:48 say it was crosby, malkin, giroux, or datsyuk? as a gm would you want the league to suspend your best player for something that happened on your own team? I'm by no means condoning his actions but just wondering if you think it would need to be handled the same way. |

Posted - 02/02/2012 : 14:57:56 that coach is as tough as nails, if it were me??? i would have choked him out... and that would have been the headline. "COACH CHOKES OUT PLAYER" |

I agree with Leigh. Why should the league wait to see what his team does? I see it the other way around. The league should suspend him, and then the team should decide if they are going to add anything to it!
Guest 5744 - It may not have been on the ice, but as Leigh mentioned, it was in an area that his still part of the game. If a player jumps into the stands to assault a fan, the league obviously will step in to handle this. Really there's no difference here! |

Posted - 02/02/2012 : 13:39:21 Leigh, don't get me wrong. The KHL does have a vested interest in the outcome of this situation as it speaks directly to the image and integrity of their league. That being said, if the team was to suspend him on their own for the rest of the season and the playoffs, why would the league have to get involved at all?? Could they not simply support the decision of the team??

Posted - 02/02/2012 : 13:24:42 i believe its a team issue, IMO the league shouldn't be able to do anything it wasn't on the ice. and i would bet the team does nothing any takers? |

The only way that the KHL should get involved is if the team doesn't do anything or is not severe enough. I think this is a pretty gross action on Radulov's part but let's call a spade a spade. There have been the same or worse actions on the ice in the NHL. In some cases far worse. Is this worse that Bertuzzi (we all know what happened), McSorley slash to Brashear's head, Simon stopping his skate on a downed opponent, or anything that Hextall or Belfour did in their careers??
Horrible? Yes. Deserving of a severe punishment?? Yes. Kicked out of hockey around the world?? Nope.
I see a 20ish game suspension by the team. Maybe the year and playoffs but I think that is on the borderline.
I don't think I agree with you Beans. This is a league issue, just the same as any act that occurs on the ice surface. It happened during the game; it happened in the playing area (the bench is a part of the game play area); it was not behind closed doors; nor is it a personal and private matter.
- If you get caught assaulting a player during a game the league deals with it. - If you get caught assaulting a ref during a game the league deals with it. - If you get caught assaulting a fan during a game the league deals with it.
So if you get caught assaulting a coach (yours or otherwise) during a game the league must deal with it - and set the precident.
I do agree that the team should ALSO act. But their actions are entirely up to them how they wish to police it and it should have nothing to do with any league decisions. If they want to do nothing, fine; if they want to kick him off the team, power to them.

I dunno, but it looked to me like the other players didn't see it really. It was so quick and he appeared to be near the end of the bench and that the other players were either looking the other way, or were shuffling along the bench not paying attention?
Still sickens me to watch this.
Could be Alex. I thought the guy at the end saw what happened. If you look closely he smiles at Radulov. Maybe he knew why he he did it. If the KHL wants to be taken seriously internationally they have to suspend Radulov for a good long time. Remainder of the season and any playoffs I would say (I assume their season length is similar to the NHL???) |
