I think that with the new NHL rules playoff hockey has alot less fighting.
I really like to see two heavyweights going at it in the playoffs because they will put everything on the line in that fight so they may have a chance to spark their team. In the new NHL it seems like there is less of this now with the new rules.
I really miss it.

I have a lot of old games on tape (80's-early 90's) and there was a lot of fighting in the first round. The fights diminshed with each round and by the time the finals were on fights were pretty rare.
No cup for Dino, what a shame |

^^^^^^that came out weird but ok if you would read, i simply stated that they are too old and questioned none of their talent abiliies as i said you could get like 3 good years out of them. and you need to know that.
i simply meant to say that i know they are the best team this year, but that doesn't guarantee them s***. What are the statisticsof teams running the table as the best team the whole season? Or simply a #1 seed winning the postseason? |

wow i specifically said they are too old to build a franchise around and im not questioning they are the best team in the NHL right now b/c they are, but they were the best team supposedy at the end of last year and are top 3 in the league nearly every year.
And all of these players were on the team for the past 2 years and how many cups? o thats right 0.
You need to get real detroit is the best team in the nhl this year
You cant build a team around lidstrom and hasek but if they were younger you could.... you should no that

you can easily say datsyuk and zetterburg, but lidstrom is old if your planning on building a franchise on him than you'll be good for umm 3 years and the same thing with hasek...you wanting him to be your franchise goalie is a joke, you'll have what 50 games outta him during the regular season then hope he performs in the playoffs and you got him for what 3 years?. i wouldnt say holmstrom is a franchise player
he doesnt got the talent
when someone leaves someone quickly fills their role with that team |

Lidstrom, Hasek, Holmstrom, Datsyuk, Zetterberg? And obviously all the other less notables. Their dynasty is dying down and rebuilding at the same time. Amazing

i wouldnt say Franchise players except for 3 but it is filled with good players and they all play there role and also know how to play their role

Well Detroit is so good, and the chemistry runs so well... not a single one of them can afford to sit for five minutes. The team is just that, a team. I think that trading any of their starters would greatly change everything, they 'grew up' together if you will. Could me my perspective, but I think hockey to them is the Detroit Red Wings since most of the team is franchise players.

Dont get me wrong i love fights but they dont much
maybe teams need to try that style of play

Those 'softies' in Detroit are the best team around. I believe in one formula and one only. Detroit employs the 'hocckey style hockey' lol. While most of the West employs the 'gritty style hockey' Not favouring any, just saying

wait a minute...who lead the league in fighting majors last year? o ya the stanley cup champion ducks, i believe at least i the mans division which is the west that there will be more fighting for years to come, expect for those softies in detroit... |

While I do like fighting more than dirty plays (who doesn't) I think that the playoff atmosphere has a certain ambience for lack of better word. The hard hitting gets harder, the rivalries get intense, the injuries pile up ... it is fun to see the coaches shine personally and the underrated position (again, coach) to get attention.
I loved the Leafs run of 30 for epitomizing just that.

Whoa! No fighting in the late 80's and early 90's? Did any of you ever watch the bloodbaths that took place between the Oilers and the Flames during those years? Perhaps it dropped off, but not completely. There were some amazing scraps in those series. Best ever - Dave Brown destroys Jim Kyte with so many rights, Kyte was begging for a left.
Let's not forget the Broadstreet Bullies going back another decade. The Big Bad Bruins (Wensink, Stan Johnathan, Terry O'Reilly, etc.) too. Some of those playoff series were brutal.

Noone wants to risk the chance of losing a player in the penalty box, or they don't want a todd Fedoruk-like thing happen. This was no diffrent from the Old NHL, the new NHL just adopted this already sane idea.
When life gives you lemons throw them at the Ottawa Senators and their fans and hope it gets them in the eyes ;) |

I completely disagree... The playoffs always had less fighting - it was an unwritten sort of code amongst the players that they would play and battle hard, but dropping the gloves was not a first option. Go back to the 80's and 90's especially and you will find the statistics quite apparent on how fighting completely (almost) drops off in the playoffs... |

I think the lack of fighting creates other situations. Hartnell through the whole series, Radulov's hit from behind, the McLennan stick swinging. All that crap should go away and two guy go toe-to-toe. That would clean up stuff, I think anyway. |

Yeah teams don't fight in the playoffs because teams can't risk penaltys. |
