Posted - 05/30/2012 : 17:02:18 It was funny watching Gen Healy critique the two netminders at the pre-game skate.
While doing so (in the area between the two players' benches), Jonathan Quick was stetching out a few feet away Healy and definitely in earshot. I know the buildings are pretty noisy, but this was the pre-skate, so the noise level wasn't too high.
And while Quick was probably in a zone (preparing mentally for the game), it's not unlikely he heard Healy's critique of the two goalies, and in particular, his comment that Quick was a bit weak on the blocker side.
Not a big deal, but I thought it was kinda funny. Let's see how he does on the blocker side for tonight's game, the first game of the Stanley Cup Finals. I think he will do okay!

Posted - 05/31/2012 : 14:00:01 Good question - weak compared to what? If you're comparing Quick (or any goalie) to perfection, you're bound to find an area or two where they may have a very minor flaws.
When observing Healy's "analysis," he made comments about Brodeur being weak (at least in these playoffs) five-hole. Once again, weak compared to what standard?
I remember they showed a visual last night which I found interesting, which showed the number of goals scored on each goaltender (Quick and Brodeur), and where the goals went in. (Stick side, blocker side, glove side, high and low.)
I thought it was interesting, but to me, taking 25-30 goals scored against a goalie in the playoffs (and where the goals went in) does not show a particular long-term weakness, just where the goals happened to be scored in these playoffs. Once again, interesting information, but it does not conclude a weakness in my opinion. |

Seems like Healy makes people mad reading this forum although i have never had any problem with his work as a broadcaster. As you say weak compared to what?
Why he would say Quick is weak must just be trying to increase the drama for ratings. Really? Best record 13-2, best gaa, best sv% in the playoffs and he is "weak" somewhere? Quick hasn't shown much weakness at all in this years playoffs and if his blocker side is his "weakeness' i would say he was aware of it and compensating nicely no? Certainly no one has been able to take advantage of his apparent "weakness".
Quick played well only allowing one goal. It is an excellent bet he will continue do okay as he has been "ON FIRE" all playoffs long. |

Posted - 05/31/2012 : 05:32:05 I think Healy probably makes many astute observations as an ex-goalie, but . . . there sure is something with the way he states things that really rubs a lot of people the wrong way.
I do think some of you may be reading too much into what he states as a "weakness" for these great goalies . . . I mean, Quick may have his weaknesses, but he is playing so well these days that his weaknesses are probably above 50% of the goalies strengths! If you catch my drift.
Just like one could say Brodeur is a bit slower than back in the day . . . but that's still great quickness when ranked in this league. And, it's of course helped by his impeccable positioning, always Brodeur's #1 strength.
Anyways, it's just commentary.
