Posted - 12/16/2007 : 06:16:06 Avery didn't say anything. If he did, would Jason Blake really have Darcy Tucker as his attorney. And furthermore, would he not say anything himself about the incident? And even more so, would we not still be hearing about this, other than in hockey forums? Tucker sabotaged the situation, and it is clear as day. Even Avery would not say such a thing. Good luck proving he didn't. Tucker has Avery in a stranglehold through this war of words, simplly because we tend to believe the plaintiff and not the defendant. When Avery denied the accusation, it was the end of it. Blake has no problem with Avery, why? Because Avery did nothing.

Posted - 11/14/2007 : 18:26:52 I think that Avery is great at what he does for the Rangers. But when you start throwing personal comments and attacking other people's condition its really not cool. I still do have the respect for the guy. |

Posted - 11/14/2007 : 18:22:27 Avery is an over-the-line s**t disturber, and I would enjoy (yet would not encourage) Wayne Maki's return to the NHL to show this guy how these situations were dealt with before we became so sensitive to the personal lives of each and every player. I'm definately not a Tucker fan, but I would have loved to see him go Maki on that bastard Avery.

If he did say something, how much respect did he loose from his team mates, if they had any for him at all to start...

Posted - 11/14/2007 : 18:04:59 It would appear that one of four things happened:
1) He trash talked Blake without any reference whatsoever to the cancer but somehow something was mistaken for a reference to the cancer
2) He trash talked Blake and somehow made some indirect reference to the cancer which Avery is now rationalizing to himself as being something which was not a reference to the cancer at all
3) He trash talked Blake with a comment about his cancer and is so embarrassed now that he has somehow blocked it out of his mind, a la OJ
4) He trash talked Blake but didn't say a thing about his cancer, so all these rumours are B.S.
Who knows, but I'm going to take an educated guess. I say it was either 1 or 2.
But here's something to think about. Why was he trash talking Blake at all? I know it's part of his job and everything to trash talk the Leafs, and, within certain limits, I have no problem with that, but WHY BLAKE? To me, that (trashtalking a guy who has had to deal with cancer recently), in and of itself, says something about this guy. Maybe I'm being naive, but I think even Kenny Linsman and Esa Tikkanen would have used some discretion here.
Do I like Avery? In a word, NO. As for Tucker, I have to say I like him or I'll get into trouble with my wife. He's okay. A bit of a nut, but I think (hope) he'd have enough sense not to trash talk a guy like Blake in these circumstances. |

Posted - 11/14/2007 : 17:48:22 I heard the cancer thing, too, and if it is true, it is disgusting. But who knows...could just be a reporter trying to dig for a story. |
PuckNuts |
Posted - 11/14/2007 : 17:25:56 He was reported as saying something about Blake's cancer.
The reporter heard it from a Ranger player not a Leaf...
No one is going to say anymore, I guess they will sort it out on the ice, and in the dressing room.

Posted - 11/14/2007 : 16:47:28 What was it exactly that Avery supposedly said??
This is another of those situations where there are three sides. One side's version, the other side's version, and the truth somewhere in the middle.
Wayne or Bobby?? How about both!!! |

Posted - 11/14/2007 : 15:30:37 I liked Avery before saturday night, now after what I heard about his comment on Blake, I think he crossed the line this time. |

Posted - 11/14/2007 : 13:29:48 Avery. I hate Avery. :) - The reason for hating Avery is he likes to drive people crazy and run his mouth non-stop. That's just fine, but, he's not very tough to begin with. He may handle his own at times, but give him Chara, Boogard, Laraque, and he's not even coming close to holding his own.
So, if you're going to run your mouth, be able to back it up. :)

Posted - 11/14/2007 : 06:28:05 Well Avery wants to be the most hated player in the NHL, I think he is making a run at the top spot.
I can't stand him or Tucker. They take their small size and exploit it.
Most of the great pests are small, they have to find a way to make up for their size, and they know that none of the 6'+++ 250 pound guys would bother with them, it would be like fighting a wet paper towel...

Posted - 11/13/2007 : 22:00:00 Make That Center Of The "Hockey World"........I think both guys are good for the game and add color, for want of a better word, but if I have to choose who I dislike the worst I would say Avery simply because Tucker plays for my team. If I was a GM and drafting a team I'd take Avery in a eye blink over Tucker. Avery is quite simply younger and faster and everthing Tucker used to be at one time. |

Posted - 11/13/2007 : 21:02:30 I'm not saying he did/didn't say it. I'm just saying, you know. Better to keep your head above ground in Toronto because like that guy said in that other post about it, it's the Center of the league.

By the way, here's some interesting news on the Avery/Tucker/Blake front:
"I am extremely upset and hurt that false and damaging comments were attributed to me regarding Jason Blake," Avery said in a statement. "I made no such comments. I have lost two grandfathers to cancer and have been a consistent contributor to multiple cancer related charities — first and foremost, Hockey Fights Cancer. I am unable to comment further as the matter is now being addressed by legal counsel."
Avery is contemplating legal action against The Fan 590, a Toronto sports radio station that reported a Rangers teammate said Avery made a remark about Blake's battle with cancer during the pre-game warm-up prior to last Saturday's 3-2 shootout victory over the Maple Leafs.
He's a tragic victim of false accusations.
Uh-huh. Did I mention I have some swamp land in Florida I'd like to unload, real cheap? Just let me know if you're interested.
With that said, would I put it past a TO media vulture????
Heck no. |

Posted - 11/13/2007 : 19:52:40 Simply based on what I have heard, not actually witnessed, I'd reluctantly take Tucker over Avery.
Tucker is a jerk, but at least he isn't a turtling, moronic weasel like Avery. Nor a racist. Nor a guy who makes comments about guys wives or their buddy's cancer. That I know of....They both suck, but I have just a little more respect for Tucker. The guy weighs less than my leg, and he's in people's faces with surprisingly little fear. I can appreciate that on some level.
This is like choosing between a karate chop to the face and good hard kick in the dingily danglees. |

Posted - 11/13/2007 : 11:45:25 Avery by far.
Yes Tucker does complain a lot but I would have him on my team any day. He can score but the leafs keep putting him on the 3rd and 4th line for some stupid reason. Avery just causes crap even with his own teammates. He deserves to get clocked Bertuzzi style |
Guest9253 |
Posted - 11/13/2007 : 11:40:33 I agree with Avery over Tucker -and I think that most teams would also rather have Avery just because he is the best at what he does (like it or not) and as proof he really got under Toronto's skin (especially Tucker) and threw off their focus for a couple days! Tucker just whines to the referees after every single play. |
Beans15 |
Posted - 11/13/2007 : 10:10:41 I've never liked Tucker. I always though he was good on the ice at what he does as an instigator and he played hard, but he complains more than any player in the league. He can pull something in the corner and not get caught for it, then the same thing happens to him where the other player doesn't get caught and Tucker acts like it's the biggest mistreatment in NHL history.
Plus, he's worshiped as a player and he's not that great. Some people talked about him and Ryan Smyth is the same breath. I am not the worlds biggest Ryan Smyth fan, but the two don't belong in the same sentence. Smyth can play and Smyth has more class and heart in his right skate than Tucker has all together.
Wayne or Bobby?? How about both!!! |

Posted - 11/13/2007 : 10:05:16 I think Tucker is just a winer. He isn't that tough. I don't like how he wastes his time and the leafs time to fight huge guys. He then loses the fight and gives the opposing team the energy.
He also loses agaisnt smaller guys. He lost 2 fights already against Avery career. |
