As far as the Leafs go I like:

Sittler
Sundin
Mogilny

Horton
Leetch

Plante

I'll admit to have considered Babe Dye and Charlie Conacher too, but I don't know if there's anyone alive and on this forum who's seen them play!

C'mon, guys. Ask any of the older hockey players from the eras of the 70s and before . . . they will tell you: There is no way we could skate or compete with today's players. NO WAY. I Guy Lafleur talking about this once, as he was being asked about new stars like Selanne and Kariya - and he answered truthfully, "There is no way, even when I was at my fastest, that I could keep up with those guys." I've heard it over, and over again about how great these old players were - IN THEIR TIME.

But in today's NHL, where they wear what amounts to hard core body armour, where the average player size is 2 inches taller and 20 pounds heavier, where fantastic training regimens and performance enhancing drugs make them twice as fit - you just can't compare. ASK the old guys, if you really want to know.

Leave Jacques Plante and Mahovolich be, they were great in their day. Put Keon up in the rafters, let the banner wave around. Remember the greatness of Horton. But don't tell me they could compete with today's players.

Guest8372 - I will take your Iafrate comment, an argument can surely be made for him. But I was thinking TEAM, not individual stats - Yushkevich would put his face in front of a puck to prevent a shot going through, and would crush you into the boards later for it. (I only listed that one year for him, remember)

Two offensive defencemen don't work well together usually.

Willus3 - No joke, no Keon, no Horton. Yes, Horton was strong - he also would'a been gasping for breath at his blue line as Gilmour and Sittler were streaking to the net. Different era, dude. Keon? He'd be a smear on the ice after a few real checks from the players of today.

Wyntyre - Irbe is Latvian, you imperialist commie. Latvia was an independant country from 1921-1941, before the krauts, then the slavs came by. After the fall of the Berlin Wall, they are free again. Irbe may have played for Moscow Dynamo, but only because he HAD to, situationally.

Leafsfan101 - I stand by my Yushkevich pick. I pick the players to fit together as a team, knowing they will play against another team's greats. To have a chance against the Bossy's, Gretzky's and Jagrs of the NHL, the Leafs would have to go HARD CORE GRIT.

Leafs in 7.

Mogilny played 120 games (regular season) for them. That's a season and a half (over 40 in the playoffs). He was one of the key cogs that took them to the finals in 00-01 when they lost to Colorado.

I think you just showed your age. As individual players, Kharmalov should definitely be there, however since the Russians play as a single unit, KLM is a damn good line.

It was tough, but I had to give the nod to the newer generation of players over HOF guys like Keon and Horton - I feel they couldn't have skated/competed against the bigger, stronger, faster players of the new era. I love the tough, gritty first line - with Sundin as the "softest" player there, no one could push them around.

LOL, Yushkevich. He doesn't deserve to be on any all time list, especially the Leafs. I'm young, so no piont of me putting an all time list together. I'll side with Pucknuts' list ;).

Keon and Horton couldn't skate with the guys you chose? Please tell me you are joking.
You do understand that Tim Horton is quite possibly the strongest player to EVER play for the Leafs?
Keon was a fantastic skater and ferocious forechecker and competitor. Again, please tell me you were joking.

I can accept it if you are going to use more current players (barely). But are you crazy? Yushkevich over Leetch or Schneider? I'd even take Iafrate and his injury proneness and booming shot over Yushkevich. And I'm not even a Leafs fan.

Yeah. But if I'm the coach, I take a non-injury proned player over an injury-proned one.

I don't care who is better when healthy. The season lasts 82 games, not 14, then take a 10 game break, than another 51, then a 2 game break...

Nash is injury prone, that has an effect on the way he plays, it effects all players.

For LA replace Blake with Coffey as Robinson is already the stay at home D.

Replace Tkachuk with Shanahan. Tough to leave out some great players who passed through StL. Oates, Turgeon, Tkachuk, Kariya, Gilmour...
