Posted - 10/14/2009 : 21:00:01 If the Habs make the playoffs depends majorly on Carie Price.
IF Price can step up to the plate and play a solid entire season, the Habs will have a chance. If he can not, there is no way they will. They just will not have scoring to out-score their opponets most nights to win enough games, with bad goaltending.
Also, another big deciding factor for Les Canadiens will be injuries. The Habs just do not have enough talent to replace a major defencemen or goal scorer/play maker. They have nobody to come in and fill a role, if a member is down. And currently, they have lost Markov. Going to be very, very hard for them to replace him. (Even bringing in Bergeron.)
So, this alone may be enough for the Habs to go under.

Luckily we have some depth on D, but nonetheless nothing can replace Markov. Although Gainey really should pick up M.A Bergeron for some PP support, I'm sure Martin could whip him into shape defensively. The Habs can make the playoffs, just everyone is going to have to pick up the slack.
Wow .. Gainey must read this forum, guess who the Habs picked up today. |

Hal Gill? or maybe Paul Mara? How about the purse snatching O'byrne.... wait he's hurt as well....
Its up to Hamrlik, Spacek and Georges to carry the load

its way to early to tell. it was hard for them even with markov,do not praise price to fast last year he was good until all star break and fell down fast.at this rate he will be burnt out by xmas. might have to trade for a rental player sooner than later i see halak in this deal.
The only reason Price collapsed last year is that he came back too early from the ankle injury so that he could play in the allstar game. I have said that all along, and now he is admitting as much. I know its early, but it would seem his play early on would point to that fact.
Markov is supposed to be back in Feb, so the Habs are not losing him for the whole season. Further, the Habs have some depth on D, so they will be alright. They WILL make the playoffs.

Posted - 10/06/2009 : 04:44:10 Well, I think the Habs will make it if Price keeps playing like he has been . . . he is the only reason you are 2-0 this season. But, I don't see it, and the loss of Markov is huge . . . I can totally see Price coming back down to reality and playing more like an average goalie, and the defence becoming a bit porous. An injury like Markov sustained is also a very tough one to recover from, more than half the season lost at least for him, maybe more.
I say no, the Habs are out because of it. I had them at the bottom half of the playoff picture to begin with, and I see lots of high scoring, shootout type games in the future.
Price should prepare to see lots more rubber in the future!

Posted - 10/05/2009 : 12:26:09 They now lost some more depth in losing Obyrne. This will give a chance to Weber, Carle or Subban to step up.
Weber looks ready and the other two might get the call later on.
Markov is their best player though and Montreal record isn't too good without him. |

Posted - 10/04/2009 : 13:07:55 ya leafs81, price is going to b the deciding factor if they make the playoffs or not. so far he's been awesome. in the habs first two games of the year he has faced 81 shots and only gave up 4 goals in total. |

Posted - 10/04/2009 : 11:47:20 This will hurt them for sure.
but yes they CAN. But everybody's gonna need to step up, especially Price, and he can do it by the looks of it. |
