I just ate a late supper at the counter of a local diner where a fellow patron told me that Chris Chelios had just signed with the AHL's Chicago Wolves. Does anyone know this to be true? I thought he had signed up for social security.

Did you hear about the retired proctologist? He spent 40 years saying "what's a place like this doing in a girl like you?"

I heard on TSN the other day, that this is in fact somewhat true. Chelios did infact play with the Wolves. Unsure of a contract yet.

Well, partially correct. He's played with them, but no contract as of yet.

From the Chicago Tribune Today.

No official contract had been signed as of Monday night, but Chelios considered that a formality and said he expects to play within a week. Both sides described the imminent deal as a 25-game tryout that would permit him to join an NHL team if one becomes interested.

Chelios would prefer opportunity knocked with the Blackhawks, the first team he called. But after talking to GM Stan Bowman, Chelios learned the Hawks like their depth on defense and have salary-cap limitations anyway. They also already have a nucleus of solid, young leaders on the verge of the Stanley Cup finals and shouldn't tinker with that dynamic.
