Now i really don't see this happening but its has been suggested a few times on Habsinsideout.com (which is the Montreal Gazette) Pat Hickey is a fairly reputable sports writer, has suggested the Flyers are exploring this option, seeing asthough the common belief is they have a contending team lacking a contending goalie, and with a lot of depth up front this could be an option,, is Jeff Carter only worht Carey Price and a first rounder draft pick (27th) i mean as a habs fan i would do this in a second espcially since we have a 24 year old AHL all star goalie in the minors, but would philly even entertain this thought?

habs fan that agrees i would rather have paid a Lombardi much less to put up a few less points and play the same defensive role

He was actually pon the second line, the 3rd line is Lapierres'.
Anyway, I agree that $5M is high, even though he did put up 11 points in 19 games, not too bad. He also has some intangibles in that he is a decent 2 way player and is a good faceoff man.
Bottom line is that is was always thought it would cost them $5M to keep him, and so it was. His signing is part and parcel of freeing up cap space by trading Halak. |

I would actually put Kesler ahead of Plekanec and I don't think either of them are worth $5 million.
Where was Plekanec in the playoffs?? 3rd line??
However, I would pay for a guy who has scored 4 straight 20+ goal seasons, but still not $5 million for 6 years. Too long, too much money.

If the Habs wanted to keep him, that was going to be the price - he would have gotten that on the open market July 1.
I think its fair - I compare Plekanec to Kesler, they're similar players with similar stats. and now similar contracts |

Sharks management let Nabokov know that he will not be a Shark after July 1st. So maybe he does end up in Philly. But who, other than Bob Gainey, would trade for Briere's ridiculous contract.
PS Good on Gauthier for getting Plekanec under contract for the next 6 years. I was worried that the Habs were about to go the way of Souray and Streit again. Is $5million a year for Pleky too much? |

i dont see nabby going to the flyers...to be honest i don't see him leaving the sharks but if it were to happen i doubt it would be the flyers...they wont get rid of briere |

The Flyers will look to trade Briere and free up cap space for the signing of....get ready for it....Evgeni Nabokov :)
With the emergence of Claude Giroux, Briere is no expendable...

true, Thomas and Nabokov are not likely candidates given the cap space - but the other goalies I mentioned could all be had for 2-3M per year, some less than that.
Anyhoo, its all moot now given that Halak has been traded, Price is likely to stay in MTL. |

Well i think the thing is price doesn't come with the cap hit as pretty much every goalie you names, and we all know philly is right up against the cap,,, i'd take price over thomas anyday at 5.6 million..... no i agree it doesn't seem possible but..... then again
