Posted - 02/10/2011 : 19:42:10 I think TO got the better of the deal by getting the prospect. A straight up swap would have been more even player wise, but I guess the prospect was to balance the cap difference.
I loved the line "Former Duck sGM, traded with the Ducks GM a former Ducks to the Ducks." The birds are returning to roost of sorts. |

I checked several sites, and he is regularly listed at ~ 175lbs (ranged from many in the 170 range to a single 181). Sorry, 175lbs is not going to cut it in today's NHL for a defenseman - its barely enough for a forward, he'll need to bulk up substantially if he's going to ever make it. |

Posted - 02/10/2011 : 07:03:22 Gardiner is far from blue chip.... he still has a long way to go before making the jump. He's def got some offensive upside but he's soft and his defensive play is questionable |

You can't really say Beauchemin was a "throw in" when he is the only player going to Anaheim. He was very obviously what Anaheim wanted. If anything the 4th rd pick was throw in. Anaheim want to get rid of Lupul, Leafs wanted Gardiner in return Beauchemin. So in order for the Leafs to get Gardiner (a 1st rd pick from last year) they took on Lupul, who does not fit in Anaheims plans, and because TO took Lupul off the Ducks hands they "threw in" a 4th round pick.
So lets put this trade out there for what it is. Beans is gonna love this and I expect him to jump all over it.
This deal was Beauchemin for a 1st rounder(17th overall last year), a reclamation project and a long shot draft pick next year.
Like it or not, Burke somehow ended up with a 1st rd pick from last years draft. Gotta love Burke. Just to throw another bit a crazyness at some leaf haters. Does that now mean that the Kessel deal really only cost the Leafs one 1st rd pick and 2nd rd pick? I am just sayin!
I'm impressed with Burke in another thread i figure Beachemin's Value being something like Deharnais, Carle and a 3rd rounder which is close to this but getting a blue chip defensive prospect is probably better than Deharnais and Lupul i would say is a gamble but if he stays healthy it is a big win for the Leafs,, he has upside , downside is the cap hit he brings with him... all in all if Lupul goes back to him 20 plus goal scoring days this is deffinetly a win for the Leafs

Shocker!
