Posted - 02/19/2011 : 17:03:33 since i live in eastern canada i am blessed to have leaf games on tv all the time, i have noticed that phaneuf shy's away from fights, for a guy that loves to lay down the monster hits you'd think he may throw some hands aswell.... i dont know? just a thought.
and he cant aim that heavy shot |

Posted - 02/21/2011 : 23:44:30 Good thing he doesn't fight. He seems like a guy who would break his hand on the other guys helmet on the first punch. Also, comparing Phaneuf to Scott Stevens just makes me feel ill. |

I watched him play a lot for the Flames and he was a completely diffrent player. Whats going on with him, i have no idea, buts its something for sure. The way he is playing right now, he is a complete dis-appointment for the leafs. He doesn`t even shoot the puck often, when he does its over top of the net.
I`ve noticed a lot of times when the camera zooms in on him for an on ice close up, he seems to be in another world, its like his mind isn`t even in the arena. He constantly watches the play standing still and seems to be disorientated, its like his mind is some place else.
What-ever his problem is he better fix it quick. This is not the same player i watched play for the flames, no way.
Somehow that is only average? What does it take to be a disappointing season? Being traded to the Bruins and not wearing a certain logo? Kaberle must have been having a demi-god like season if Phaneuf's season is average. Guess Komisarek is having an average season too. |

Actually, this is exactly the sort of player he was for the Flames, in his last year and a half of their service. Dion's best years were his first 3 years - big mean physical defenseman that could lay you out on the ice and score a wicked goal in the same shift. And then, he just seemed to lose his intensity and focus, and with it his effectiveness.
Perhaps you are now seeing why the Flames might have been so willing to deal him when they did... |

Posted - 02/20/2011 : 07:21:54 Yes, but you said it. Scott Stevens was an effective player. He was consistent over his entire career. Dion Phaneuf have been a disappointment for the past 2 seasons. Even though he was injured for a part of the time, his pace of 3 goals and 22 points is morbid.
If the Leafs are going to succeed, Phaneuf has to be a big part of thier team offense and defense. Right now, frankly he is not. As respectfully as I can say, most of time you watch Leaf games or even highlights, Dion Phaneuf making a stupid defensive play leading to a goal is nearly a nightly occurance.
I couldn't care less if Phaneuf fights or not. It's not his job. But he does need to produce on his skill. He hasn't for some time. Hopefully for Leaf fans, next year he will start. |

Scott Stevens was a pretty effective player, can`t really remember him fighting much. Don`t see Chris Pronger fight. Volchenkov is a vicious hitter, he doesn`t fight. Plenty of big time hitting defenseman who never fight.....thats why you have players like Colton Orr. |
