The biggest reason were his costly turnovers. Two plays instantly come to mind where Del Zotto turnovers cost the Rangers games against Philly & NJ. He's stiil a great prospect, and he showed signs of brillance last year running the PP as an 18 year old, but his defensive play still needs some work.

i just dont see why they didnt play him much this yewar, he had 37pts. last year, they put a leash on him because his defence was weak and that killed him... it seem's

He's been in the AHL for a lot of this season, even before the Bryan McCabe trade. There is still big hopes for Del Zotto though, so as long he isn't traded over the summer, expect him back in the line-up full time next fall.

As for McCabe, very unlikely you'll see him back in NY next season IMO.

with new york pickin up macabe it doesnt look like there's much room for del zotto to get much ice time and no chance of pp time, it's lookin like ahl for him or trade.

I like Del Zotto in a keeper pool, I do think he'll be a mainstay on the NYR blueline in years to come. Just not this one.

That being said, if you have a chance to drop him for Edler, Goligoski, or Shattenkirk, I would take it in a heartbeat. Edler and Shatt are young (Edler is 24, Shatt is 21), so loads of potential in the future, and already scoring 30-50 points a year. Goligoski is a bit older but seems to have settled in as a 30-40 point dman. I don't think Del Zotto will ever be more than that.

For me, Edler and Shattenkirk are a toss up, I think both bring the same potential to the table. I might lean to Edler just because I know him better, and know that he plays a significant offensive role on the most potent offense in the NHL - thus plenty of chances for points.
