I can't believe St louis gave up a former 40 goal scorer for a 2nd round pick,, sure his goal totals are down this year but he is still on pace for a respectable 54 point season 6ft 200lbs and with the right chemistry there is no reason he annot go back to being a 30 goal guy what a steal by the sbares i wish Gauthier hadn't been sleeping on this one!... Oh did i mention he is under contract next year so he s not even a rental!

There are only so many of the exact same player a team needs. As Baumer eluded to, Stewart appears to be Boyes but a better player, younger, and cheaper.

It's the cap world. Cheaper and better is way way better. It's appears that Buff wins this deal, but that $4.5 million is a lot of money that STL can use.

I think one thing people are missing is that Boyes makes 4.5 mil/year and will be paid that next year to. I think a 2nd round pick is a fair trade for both teams. Smart teams don't make deals based on what a player had done in the past, it's a "what have ya done for me lately" league. St.Louis more than replaced him with Chris Stewart.

Unless the Blues and other GM's know something that we don't... I have to think that Boyes was shopped around some, and if that was the best offer that they got for him, what does that say?

You're right - he's only a couple of years removed from a very productive season, and although he hasn't lit it up in STL the last 2 years, he's .75 PPG over his career, and has had 3 seasons at nearly PPG. His last 2 years have been around 40 points. It would appear that most teams have decided he's going to be much closer to the 40pt Boyes from now on, and traded appropriately.

Can't believe this trade - what is St.Louis doing?

Brad Boyes for a second rounder that may never play in the NHL.

I don't know for how long he was shopped around but I am sure St.Louis could have got something alot better in return.

Good pick-up.

He is two years removed, however, from his 33 goal season, 3 years removed from his 43 goal season. What has he done lately? Last year, it was 14 goals, 28 assists, and getting moved down from the top line to the second line (third at times). This year, he had similar numbers, and I am guessing he was getting mostly second line minutes (haven't seen St. Louis all year, oddly).

So, one must remember the trend when evaluating the player here, and not think of him as a 30 goal guy. He had two good years, then fell back into so-so second line status.

He could profit though from a more offensive minded team like Buffalo though, so we'll see.

how many right shooting forwards do they need, good pickup though

A pretty nice pickup by the Sabres. Boyes may be a few years removed from his 30-40 goal seasons, but he's still putting up respectable numbers this season. 41 points in 61 games, a +11...nothing wrong with that.
