I really don't know whay I care, but I always thought he was a little under rated, just wondering if anyone knows if he officially retired?

Couldn't disagree more, and afraid you're likely not gonna get your wish, at least not anytime soon. Burrows began as an energy player / pk specialist / shut down line forward. He is lucky to have found some chemistry with the Sedins, but when that slides like it has the past 5 games, they can use him in other useful roles. They did this today in a game vs the Bruins where they won 3-2 in a shootout. For the record, they had no business getting ANY points out of this, let alone 2! The B's outplayed them all over the rink, only to have Luongo steal this one for them including stopping all three shots in the shootout, something he hasn't been great at throughout his career!

Back to Burrows, they switched him back on a line with Kesler (who he used to play with) and they played extremely well. With the slump the Sedin's are in, it's already being contemplated all over the radio waves here as to whether or not the coach will keep him with the Sedins or play him elsewhere and see if someone else can click with them to get them out of their slump.

As for his contract, unlike Carter, he was smart enough to realize he'd been fortunate playing on the first line and that he couldn't walk in demanding a huge raise! He agreed to sign for 2mil per over 4 years and is signed through 2013, this being just the first year of that deal. Sure, if he continues to develop and be more than a checker, he'll be due a decent raise next time around, but for now, and for the next few years, he's a Canuck and i'm happy about that! Also unlike Carter, he gave the Canucks a bit of a "home town discount" to stay here as that's where he wanted to be. Kesler signed a few years ago and is up for renewal at the end of this year. I'm hoping the Canucks can find a way to keep him and keep him happy. It will be interesting to see if he gives a slight discount to stay here. I personally think he will rather than bolt for more money to a team he's unfamiliar with (guess it could depend on the team too though?).

I can appreciate the hate-on some have for Burrows and that's their opinion! Myself, i like him and i'm happy he's a Canuck!

CBJ traded him to the Carolina Hurricanes at the deadline in 2007 for a 5th round pick. In 10 games with the Canes, he had 1 goal & 0 assists.

I remember the day he was traded to the Rangers, i was really excited as he was in the midst his most productive season to date (as i look back now on the stats, he had 25 goals & 55 points in 68 games). After arriving in NY, like is often the case, he was just a complete bust. He only scored 1 goal in the 11 games. And then he had 17 points in 43 games before he was shipped off to the Caps. In fact pretty much the entire Ranger team was traded away that trade deadline...Brian Leetch, Petr Nedved, Alexei Kovalev, Anson Carter, Vadimir Malakhov, Matthew Barnaby, Chris Simon, Jussi Markkanen, etc.

Ah yes, it was a textbook case of the grass is greener on the other side. He had a perfect situation playing with the twins as a right hander, and just going to the side of the net to tap pucks into the empty side. But of course his head gets too big and he starts seeing dollar signs dance in front of his eyes. He goes to Columbus, and oops - the grass is dead...

He's still talked about and compared to here in Vancouver as he was the first guy to really develop some chemistry with the twins. After one season here, he held out for more money and the Canucks let him go. Think he went to CBJ after they offered him closer to what he wanted but he never panned out there. Don't recall if he played for anyone after the Blue Jackets?

Back then, the Sedin line was the #2 line here and he managed over 30 goals if i recall correctly? Be interesting to see how he'd have fared if the Canucks could have gotten him signed as the Sedin's have obviously matured as players since then!

The last piece of info I found on Carter is he spent the 07/08 season in Switzerland after not finding a job in the NHL. He had some tryouts but I believe a concussion hampered him getting on with an NHL team.

He did have a few nice season, toping the 60 point plateau and having a number of 20 to near 30 goal seasons.

Although, at the age of 35 and not being in the NHL for the past 3 years, you might as well call him retired.

Thanks Beans! good to know!
