8 weeks ago this question would be laughable, we were talking about blowing up this team tradeing Regher Iginla and anyone of value, and now the Flames are right there in the tight western conference race. Will the Flames play in this years post season?

Just a note:

I was looking at some stats today and was amazed when I sorted "Goals For" among the league to see that Calgary was Tied for 4th!!!

Sure the 9-spot the other night helped,

But it sure is nice to see this team scoring again, especially after the past 3 seasons being in the bottom 10.

What impresses me more is the fact that these goals are coming from every line and almost every player.

I think they can make it as long as they continue to compete hard against the Division and Conference, they don't have to win them all, but keep the games close and take the OT/SO L points if possible.

Cheers!

Sure! They are the hottest team in the league right now, I could see them making a decent playoff run and pulling off a few upsets like in 2003/2004.

But probably not.... they should make it though.

There was once a license plate in Toronto that abbreviated "Go Leafs" it read "Golfs".

Lol, I love the honesty Leigh. This question is quite the conundrum right now though as they are the hottest team in the league. With 23 games to play the question remains did they peak to early and maybe come up short in the end or did they go on a torrid streak to give them self a shot and there veteran core will carry them the rest of the way? Only time will determine but I'd love to see them make it especially if they are filling the net as they have been lately. Not only will it add to the Canadian contingent which is always good for revenue from the business perspective but what candian hockey lover wouldn't like to see the west maybe come down between the two canadian rivals or have them battle it out in the second rd and leave a canadian team standing with a real shot to make it to the cup. I am on board the hopeful train

It's really touch and go right now. The west is exceptionally tight, and they have played a couple more games than everyone else and are just barely inside. The good news is that their schedule is not too bad in the short term so they can keep padding. A big win like the one over their division rival might be just what the doctor ordered so I'm optimistic. Although if the loss of jokinen is long term then it could hurt then considering his production during this streak.

My brain says they have just as much of a shot as the other 8 teams within a few points, and my heart says YES!

I gotta say no. They are hot right now and completely punished Colorado. But there are too many good teams in the west and the point spread is to close. There are better teams than Calgary that are fighting for the last few spots and when push comes to shove near the end of the year, Calgary won't be there.

Consider that in the East there are 3 teams with more than 70 points and there is a gap of 9 points between 3rd and 10th. It appears to be a 4 horse race in the east between Buffalo, Atlanta, Carolina, and New York for the final 2 spots.

However, looking at the East, only Vancouver and Detroit have more than 70 points and there is only a 4 point difference between 4th and 10th. Really, Edmonton is the only team completely out of the race in the West with COL, and STL pretty close to out. Also, teams like LA and Chicago are better than Calgary and will beat them out in the end.
